If you plan on enjoying the beautiful outdoors this fall, make sure you protect yourself from the sun with a hat, sunglasses and long sleeves. When using sunscreen remember to use at least a shot glass dollop of SPF 30 or higher, and reapply every 2 hours.

We're looking for melanoma and skin cancer patients and survivors to who would like to share their story and bring hope to others! Our 'I’m Living Proof’ initia...tive is an interactive map of the world that allows you to find other patients and survivors in your region, to read their story and to connect with them. This initiative was borne from our Founder Kathy's desire to ensure that those diagnosed with melanoma know that surviving melanoma is possible. See the 'I'm Living Proof' map: https://saveyourskin.ca/im-living-proof/ The map currently features just under 30 stories, or stars as we like to call them, from patients and survivors across Canada. Every story is unique and brings invaluable knowledge and hope to countless other Canadians if shared. We’d like to invite all melanoma and skin cancer patients and survivors to be a star on our map. This would entail writing your story (in as much detail as you’d like) and providing a photo of yourself. Any person who wants to connect with you after reading your story would have to fill out a form, allowing you to choose whether you’d like to connect with them and preserving your privacy. If this is something you’d like to take part in, please get in touch with Marianne, our Program Coordinator, who will help guide you through the next steps. You can reach her at [email protected]

As you yell fore, shoot 6, and write 5 we remind you to protect your skin from UV rays with a wide brimmed hat, a UPF golf shirt, UPF arm & calf sleeves and sunscreen. This image from UVoider includes a great top ten list!

The sun emits two types of UV rays that are particularly harmful to your skin: UVA and UVB rays. UVA rays penetrate deep into the skin, causing long-term damage... like aging and wrinkles. UVB rays, on the other hand, are shorter than UVA rays. They burn the surface of your skin, causing immediate damage like sunburns and skin cancer in the long run. Sunscreen is designed to protect your skin from the sun’s damaging rays. Keep in mind that while crucial, sunscreen alone is not enough. Seek the shade whenever possible, wear sun-safe clothing, a wide-brimmed hat and UV-blocking sunglasses, for a complete sun protection strategy. See more

Sun Safety is a MUST any time you are outside in daylight. But certain times of day have a higher UV index than others. As a general rule: be extra vigilant during those peak hours. Seek shade, reapply, wear protective clothing, hats and sunglasses. And, if at all possible - go inside!
