Little Ernie couldn't keep his attention at school and was distracting his classmates. Someone suggested that he get an eye exam, and suddenly after getting glasses, he was concentrating and getting good grades at school! Routine exams for kids are critical--they don't know that they should be seeing better! The Canadian recommendation is for an eye exam every year while in school. #childrensvision #routineexams

Keeping your glasses clean, part 3 of 3: Clean with dishsoap and water Skin oils and dust can get trapped between your frame and lenses (especially if you have plastic glasses). So every once in a while, when the spray no longer does the job, you will have to wash your frame and lenses with dishsoap under warm running water, and dry with a clean, dry cloth (a dishtowel is fine). Use a dishsoap without any additives (like moisturizers), otherwise you will be left with a film on your glasses (which you should be able to get off with the glasses spray). Make sure to get soap around the frame where it meets the lenses, because this is where the oils get trapped. Voila! Sparkling clean glasses again! #cleanglasses #yyjoptometrist #dirtyglasses
Nikon is introducing the Anti-Fog promotion, which gives you a lens cloth that reduces the fog build-up on your lenses, even when you're wearing a mask. Get it as part of the I See Without Compromise multi-pair program. Still have questions? Call us!
Keeping your glasses clean, part 2 of 3: Clean with clean cloth, and spray Even with a good coating on your lenses, you will need to clean your glasses very regularly. No way around it! I have those special glasses-dry-cleaning-cloths in every purse and room in the house. You'll just have to wipe them regularly. And wash them regularly too! When they start smearing more than cleaning, throw them in the wash and hang to dry. You'll also have to periodically use the glasses spr...ay-cleaner that you got with your glasses too. (See our Aug 27 Facebook post on the new version of the cleaner that we're providing.) Spray your glasses front and back, and dry with the glasses cleaning cloth. #cleaningglasses #dirtyglasses #yyjoptometrist #glassescare See more
Do you feel like your glasses are always dirty? There are three components to keeping your glasses clean: antiglare coatings, using a spray and cloth, and washing your glasses with soap and water. Keeping your glasses clean, part 1 of 3: Antiglare coatings Almost all glasses come with an antiglare coating now. There is a range ofquality, and of course the manufacturers are always "improving" them, but a... good coating these days is made of 4 components: antireflective, antiscratch, oliophobic, and antistatic. Some coatings are much better than others, and I've always favoured Nikon for ease of cleaning, but Hoya has an excellent coating too. If you feel like your glasses are always dirty, you may need a better quality coating. If you used to have no antiglare coating, and you feel like your antiglare coating is harder to keep clean, you may be right. BUT, the benefits of having the antiglare far outweigh the ease of cleaning of old lenses. Vision is brighter, clearer, and has less... glare than without. So keep your antiglare coating. The antiscratch coating is absolutely necessary and generally doesn't cause any problems. The oliophobic coating is the part of the coating that helps oil bead up and wipe off easily. The antistatic part of the coating helps repel dust. All these coatings have to chemically bond together, with each other, and with the surface of your glasses lens, so there's a lot of technology behind them. So the first part of keeping your glasses clean is to have a good coating. Stay tuned for parts 2&3 of Keeping your Glasses Clean!
So cool and exciting! Zeal sunglass company has just come out with 2 frames made from recycled plastic bottles and agricultural waste grasses! The frames have their Allume lenses, which are made from a plant-based polymer (petroleum-free). Amazing! Book an appointment to come in and try them on! #zealoptics #seegrass #sustainableeyewear #savetheplanet
It's pumpkin time! Squash&pumpkins (and other orange veggies) are high in beta-caorene, as well as containing vitamins E&C, fibre, lutein&zeaxanthin. Here's a tasty, healthy, very easy recipe that I tried recently: QUINOA WITH ROAST VEG (based on recipe from Victoria Magazine):... Toss 4 cups cut up red and yellow bell peppers, 400g trimmed and halved Brussel sprouts, 2 cups cubed butternut squash, -with olive oil, paprika and salt and pepper. -Roast at 450 degrees for 25 minutes. Cool slightly. Mix with 4 cups cut up kale and 2 cups cooked quinoa (2/3 cup uncooked). Drizzle with dressing. -Dressing: Mix together 1/4 cup stone-ground mustard, 2 Tbsp white wine vinegar and 1 Tbsp maple syrup. #eyefoods #healthyeyes #squashrecipes #harvesttime
