Mudra literally means a gesture or symbol. Mudras help the Prana to be retained in the body. . Hands have approximately 100,000 nerves and each finger tip has approx 3000 nerve receptors. These nerve receptors are nothing but microscopic versions of Marma Points where energy enters and leaves the body. . When one finger tip is touched with another finger tip, one Marma is closing another Marma so that Prana starts flowing back into the body. Prana is essential for healing. Hence Mudras are also used for healing at all levels physical, mental and emotional. . Marmas near the finger tips also correlate to area of the brain. When they are pressed together certain parts of the brain also get activated. .
