Mourning Secondary Losses The end of the summer can mean changing schedules, which can bring secondary losses to light. This can reopen emotional wounds and bring unexpected grief. Secondary losses can be just as significant of the death of your loved one and represent the loss of that person in other roles in your life. Maybe you always received photos of the first day of school, or your spouse was always there to weed the garden or mow the yard. The realization of the loss ...of your loved one in these roles may be sudden, but these feelings are natural. Secondary losses can be physical, such as a loss of a house because you can't afford to live there anymore, or psycho-social, such as the loss of a relationship.
