#VPMircoMedia We asked BIPOC Media / Digital / Tech Artists to share with us the work they've been creating since the pandemic sent us all indoors, and we're happy to share that with you. For the next few weeks, we'll be sharing submissions from local, national, and international Artists. If you'd like to submit, please follow the link in the bio. - - -... Pihtokamik (Inside the House) - Dallas Storm Flett-Wapash Treaty 2, Brandon, MB Pihtokamik is a recording of a real-time, three dimensional visualization of my bedroom, constructed using photos I had taken, and broken down to an interactive state. This work is the result of being inside of my room most days, for long periods of time. Much like others, that time has been spent working remotely; learning, executing, and reflecting. The sheer abundance of time home, I hadn't felt since living Up North, studying towards my high school diploma chronologically through three different Cree nations. Often, I'd use a camera, and record activities in my room, wanting to turn it into some kind of studio. I've since been given the freedom, ability, and know-how to reshape the bedroom I reside in, with DIY and a bucket of paint. This newfound ability drove me to witness how I could potentially reshape my bedroom digitally. I hope in doing so, I'd be a step closer. Closer to expressing what it feels like to work where I sleep. #artathome #covidart #artinthetimeofcorona #artinthetimeofcovid #brandon #treaty2 #mediaatt #mediaarts #techart

Two titles from the VP catalogue are part of the Art Gallery of Regina's program Moving Pictures. If you are in Regina the works are available for the next two months, anyone with a smartphone will be able to screen Moving Pictures through the app. You can watch Adam and Eve Saulteaux by Theo Pelmus & Kris Snowbird and Journey Through Fear by Dennis Jackson from our catalogue! And there are lots of amazing VP connections to the program too. Former VP Executive Director Sandee Moore curated the program, current Education Manager Heidi Phillips has work in the program, and VP members Ian Campbell and Lindsay Arnold are part of the program too!

#VPMicroMedia We, the staff at VP, have spent the majority of our weekly meetings talking about our organizational history, who has been left out, and how we, as the current group, can address our organization’s internalized systemic racism. We see VP as uniquely positioned to be a creative nucleus that draws together artistic experimentation, technology, and creative thinking - we provide our members with access to high quality gear, professional facilities, distribution, ...workshops, and more. Our gallery and venue provide a variety of presentation opportunities, and we have great working relationships with many other organizations in Canada and internationally. We’re proud of the opportunities we provide for our members, but we’ve come to realize that currently, not everyone is comfortable accessing our space and services, and we have not done enough to ensure that 2SQTBIPOC and BIPOC artists feel welcome and supported when they come through our organization. So our conversations lately have been about what we need to do to transform VP from within so we can better support all artists. In the short term, that means acknowledging that non-western (european/white) aesthetics have been historically marginalized, in art and in all other aspects of what we, as a society, find desirable. This means asking those who have been involved with VP for a long time because they just ‘fit in’ to the culture here, to step aside for a moment so we can help to amplify other voices. This also means changing how we present #VPMicroMedia. We did not expect the quantity of submissions we received, and are grateful for them, but as expected, the work from BIPOC artists was under-represented, and it’s obvious who VP has left out in not addressing these issues sooner. With our remaining resources, we are asking for new submissions from 2SQTBIPOC and BIPOC artists only. We also welcome any feedback from our community about this, and are open to engaging in a dialogue with you. Video Pool Media Arts Centre stands in solidarity with the movement leaders and the call for justice for George Flyod and so many others. We grieve the loss of his life at the hands of police, and recognize the systemic violence woven into the institutions of law enforcement- and the countless lives lost and pain caused to Black and Indigenous communities in Canada, the US, and abroad. The systems we live with - education, housing, food, religion, work, government - were neve...r made to include the voices of QTBIPOC and BIPOC people, but to subjugate them, and only by large, often aggressive, movements have these systems let others in. As an Arts organization, we believe Art can help us make sense of the world around us, even in the most turbulent times. We will be muting our voice to centre the voice of Black and Indigenous peoples working on the ground to demand for a more just world. Please consider supporting #justice4blacklives or any other organization helping with legal costs and supplies. And most importantly, if you are non-Black or a settler, use your voice and platform to address this issue with you local government officials and within your community. #blackouttuesday

#VPMicroMedia We are seeking Artists to share an original piece made for #VPMicroMedia, documentation of art you're working on/have completed, or even a mini-Artist talk showing your workspace/practice. We're curious to know what our friends have been up to! VP is committed to using our platform to promote work by QTBIPOC / BIPOC Artists, and encourage members of these communities to apply.... Some guidelines - 1. Submissions must be 1 minute MAX, and must be Media/Digital/Tech based Art. 2. Submissions can be from anyone, anywhere in the world, even if you're not a VP member. 3. The Art must have been made during this period of distancing/isolation, but does not have to be about that at all. 4. Videos will be shared on our socials, the Artist will retain all rights to the work, but will give VP permission to post it. 5. Artists will receive a $200 CAD honorarium for their submission. 6. ONE submission per Artist 7. There is no deadline, but we have limited funds to pay the honorarium. Please head over to the link below for the submission form! #artathome #isolationart #artcanhelp #mediaart #artistruncentre #artistruncenter #digitalart http://www.videopool.org/programming/vpmicromedia/
