Viking Fire and Rescue 26.01.2021

With Beaver County and Viking moving to enhanced status we would like to remind all residents to make sure we are doing our best to try to curb this situation. If you are ill or feeling sick, stay home! Wash your hands and try to social distance the best you can. Many places are mandatory masks as well. For the immediate future our fire hall will not be open to the public. We usually encouraged people to come visit or join our team but that will be put on hold until January ...1, 2021 Hopefully we can get back to our usual as soon as possible. We are standing together....6 feet apart. See more

We would like to wish every a happy and safe Halloween. In previous years our trucks would be out patrolling the street giving out goodies and meeting the kids. This year due to COVID precautions we will not be out. We will hope to see you all next year! Be sure to set all your clocks back one hour tonight and that is also a great time to check and change batteries in smoke and carbon dioxide detectors. Use Halloween precautions to make sure you stay safe: -Use a battery-oper...ated candle or glow stick in jack-o-lanterns -When choosing costumes, stay away from long trailing fabric -Teach children to stay away from open flames, including jack-o-lanterns with candles in them. -Dried flowers, cornstalks, and crepe paper catch fire easily. Keep all decorations away from open flames and other heat sources like light bulbs and heaters -Provide children with flashlights to carry for lighting or glow sticks as part of their costume. -Remember to keep exits clear of decorations so nothing blocks escape routes. -Make sure all smoke alarms are working. Stay happy and safe!!

This year’s Fire Prevention Week campaign is, Serve Up Fire Safety in the Kitchen! -According to NFPA, cooking is the leading cause of home fires and home fire injuries in the United States. Almost half (44%) of reported home fires started in the kitchen. Two-thirds (66%) of home cooking fires start with the ignition of food or other cooking materials. -Staying in the kitchen, using a timer, and avoiding distractions such as electronics or TV are steps everyone can take to... keep families safe in their homes. Viking Fire and Rescue wants to share safety tips to keep you from having a cooking fire. Never leave cooking food unattended. Stay in the kitchen while you are frying, grilling or broiling. If you have to leave, even for a short time, turn off the stove. If you are simmering, baking, roasting, or boiling food, check it regularly, remain in the home while food is cooking, and use a timer to remind you that you’re cooking. You have to be alert when cooking. You won’t be alert if you are sleepy, have taken medicine or drugs, or consumed alcohol that makes you drowsy. Always keep an oven mitt and pan lid nearby when you’re cooking. If a small grease fire starts, slide the lid over the pan to smother the flame. Turn off the burner, and leave the pan covered until it is completely cool. Have a kid-free zone of at least 3 feet around the stove and areas where hot food or drink is prepared or carried. Normal this is the time of year when we invite you into our hall to enjoy a delicious pancake breakast. Unfortunately this year we are unable to do this due to COVID restrictions. We do truly miss hosting these events, meeting the public and getting a chance to visit with our community. If you have any questions please let us know by email @ [email protected] or message us here. Interested in joining, we are always looking for people wanting to help their community.

Back to back/Simultaneous calls had our crews busy yesterday. Luckily we had enough members to respond to both incidents effectively without jeopardizing service. The potential for calls at the same time helps us stress the importance of having dedicated volunteers. As always if interested in joining let us know, we would love to have your help to protect our community.
