We hoped everyone’s Christmas holidays were as good as ours on Boxing Day Brian, Donna and Keenan took a sled ride out to Viking Island to check on everything for the first time. And things are great as we expected. Our winter hauling will start January and get our winter burn done. To all of our friends we wish you a safe and Happy New Year!!

Good morning to all our followers on Viking Island Lodge. These past couple weekends we have shut down the island, finished levelling off the miners cabin and even had ourselves a little competition, Dave and Wendy against Donna and Frank and you guessed it Dave and Wendy caught the most fish as it was bite after bite hauling them in and Donna caught the biggest. It's bittersweet leaving a place so wonderful, but look forward to a new year ahead of us and to a new season. Below are just a few pics

Well this has been a week to remember. We were finally allowed to come home today, Yay!!!! Of course things will be a little out of the ordinary for about a week trying to get things cleaned up, getting natural gas back into our homes and etc. As long as we have electricity, food and water, life is good. There has been so many people and volunteers right from day one including MNFR, local Volunteer Fire Departments, OPP, all the grocery stores to restaurant owners that stayed... behind providing food to feed all the people along side our local heavy equipment company’s Eskers, Draco, Barrens as I’m sure I have missed some, to the Municipality of Red Lake and staff who tried to keep everyone updated as soon as they got word. Bless everyone as our hearts are filled with love and appreciation from all the sacrifices, this is how we get welcomed home. Love where we live. Also we will be in the office starting Tuesday, sorry if we missed your call.

UPDATE: Thank you all for your well wishes and prayers for rain, we have been getting some; however, there has been quite a bit of lightning so hopefully things get better real soon so we can go home and pray the lightning does not start any new ones. Local camp outfitters from Dryden, Kenora and all the way down Hwy 105 have opened their doors, and the Township of Ear Falls and all the locals have been tirelessly working to help however they can with cooking us meals etc. It’s endless kindness amongst this covid epidemic.

Our latest news.

Viking Island 04.08.2020

Hi everyone, if you haven’t heard already, our little town of Red Lake is under the threat of a forest fire. On Monday night, the whole community was ordered to... evacuate as soon as possible. So many drove out while they could. The scare was that the fire was moving east as the wind was blowing from the west and going to compromise Hwy 105, then the only way out was by air. Things happened so fast but we are safe. Many local volunteers are staying to help fight the fires to prevent it from coming to town. The pictures below are not taken by us but by other locals. I thought I would share a few, as we have been getting private messages of concerns. See more

Yesterday was Canada day and we weren't in the office to post. Of course covid has cancelled all the festivities for family to enjoy, but around here the families enjoyed some quality time that our rules allow. It has been extremely hot up here like in the high 80's to 90F. I don't care how old you are fireworks are still amazing to watch, don't mind the photo taking as I was trying to teach myself new settings.

This post is a small story of the staff retreat July, 2020 to Viking Island Lodge. We took advantage of this covid thing and invited the staff and wives to join us for a employee appreciation retreat out to Viking Island and enjoy what it has to offer as our USA guests get to see year after year. The staff was boated out and had to walk a portage and boated again, we made sure it was an adventure right from the beginning. Maybe there was a little work in for them all but in t...he end they had a relaxing weekend of fishing. They caught enough fish on Saturday for us to enjoy a fish fry that included fries and salads yum yum! We had a rain storm that blew in Saturday night and stayed till Sunday noonish so only one boat was able to go back to town with the weather conditions, so a few had another night. Below are a few pictures for you to enjoy! But this isn't the end of the story ,the last few pictures was the trip home for 2 people a special kind of way See more

Picked grandma’s peony’s what a wonderful scent in the lodge, also we have a family of partridge mom and 10 babies. They rule the island and get in the way of some work, as wherever they are you aren’t lol ! Mom watches you but does nothing, they are our island mascots this year.

Well every weekend since the ice has melted, we have been heading up to Viking Island with doing what we normally do to prepare the Island for our guests. We have been fishing a few times for our fresh feed of walleye, and boy I can taste it as I look at the picture. We also had our first plane fly in with personal gear for Dave, so he is set and ready to get this season to a start.
