For those of you that don’t know me I am a Independent Dental Hygienist. Ever since Covid came out we have been ranked with the top three most dangerous jobs in the world at the moment due to Covid. I personally feel like the dental field and dental professions are forgotten about during this pandemic. I constantly see posts about the nurses and the doctors and the hospitals(which of course thank you for what you do and being on the front lines for all of us) but what abo...ut the dentists, the dental assistants, and the hygienists? We work IN people’s mouth’s. During this hard time please show appreciation to your dentist and the dental staff, we too step into the danger zone every morning to make sure our patients are satisfied and pain free. We work long, stressful hours behind masks, gowns and gloves, spraying cavicide on everything touched in hopes we are going home safely to our kids and families. I’m getting so close to reopening my office. Here are some of the new protocols that I have in place for your health and safety. Pre-screening of all patients prior to their appointment and again at the entrance to the office. Temperature checks for patients upon entry of the clinic. You will find hand sanitizer at the front door and throughout the office, as well as disposable face masks that we will ask you to use when you enter the office. Y...ou will see that our waiting room will no longer offer magazines, children’s toys and so forth :( since those items are difficult to clean and disinfect. Appointments will be staggered and managed to allow for social distancing between patients and staff. We will limit the number of patients in the practice area at any given time. Appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) for all clinical and administrative staff, including masks for all team members; N95 (or equivalent) masks, face shields and gowns for the clinical team as required. Both hourly, and as needed, cleaning and disinfection of reception area and restrooms. Daily temperature checks of all staff members. Extra time scheduled between patients’ appointments to allow thorough cleaning and disinfection of treatment rooms and equipment. See ya soon peeps! This is a question I get asked a lot, what do I do first BRUSH or FLOSS? The answer is I always BRUSH FIRST just to loosen the plaque (biofilm) and remove any soft debris. FLOSS SECOND then I use the wrap method with my floss to rub and scrub the sides of my teeth I will finish with a light re-brush of my teeth and GUMS!
