How it all began for Mai Vietnamese Handicrafts Founded by three women who were brought together after surviving the Vietnam War, ‘when it was impossible to do anything but survive’, said Tran. Phuong My, Thi Le Khanh, and Tran Ai believed if they could lift themselves out of poverty, they could help others do the same. In 1990 they founded Mai Vietnamese Handicrafts to support artisans from neglected families and empower women to become economically self-reliant.... Today, Mai not only provides work for artisans but supports groups with educational funding for children and healthcare for all. They fund community development activities, including clean water projects, vocational training, and teacher wage subsidies. Celebrating the Successes of Kumbeshwar Technical School (KTS). KTS in Nepal, provides vocational training to students in areas such as carpentry and carpet weaving. KTS also operates a primary school and day care. As adults graduate from the program, they can work with directly KTS or receive help establishing workshops of their own.
