We need your feedback! Please take our survey on Accessibility and Inclusivity in Music Venues (estimated time: less than 5 min).

VIM 24.09.2020

The VIM House needs your feedback! Please take our survey on accessibility and inclusivity in music venues. Since its creation in 2011, the VIM House has supported a series of studies to determine the feasibility for a new state-of-the-art venue that suits the needs of audiences and the greater music community. It is now conducting an Accessibility and Inclusivity Study, in order to support and ensure that the music centre will be providing a welcoming, safe and supportive... environment for all. What does accessibility mean socially, culturally, physically and financially in a music presentation centre? What opportunities does a purpose-built music presentation centre present? What advantages, limitations, and potential barriers will the staff and the community need to address? To this end, we have designed a survey to help us get feedback and insights from our community. Please take it! You’ll find the survey: --> Here: https://forms.gle/g4oE1tt3JEdZiobp6 --> And here for Screen Readers: https://forms.gle/V8jMPTPhbbgdoGd6A

Huge congrats to Carmen Papalia for being long listed for this amazing prize. Carmen is not only an accomplished artist, but is also leading the strategic development of accessibility and inclusivity for music presentation venues, which will have a direct influence on the future VIM venue.

Good news and support for the Vancouver music scene.

VIM 10.08.2020

Through the support of City of Vancouver - Cultural Services and the funds raised through our tech gak rummage sale, our next step is a comprehensive accessibility study. VIM House will be a place for everyone, and accessible for all audience, performers and tech staff. Accessibility to live music has a long way to go, but there are a lot of people doing great work to make it better.

Thanks to everyone who attended our Conversation Series events. Your participation and feedback are incredibly valuable, and the enthusiasm for an independent music venue is inspirational. We commissioned 3 writers to attend the conversation events and then write an article to capture what the event was about. We're very happy to share the first 2 of these. Nou Dadoun writes about the conversation centred on our Acoustic Design Study, and Deirdre Morgan covered our events wit...h representatives from Splendor. http://vimhouse.ca/reports/ See more

We're looking to hear from as many voices as possible on Tuesday as we take the next steps towards realizing an independent music venue. Free and accessible, come hear a brief recap of the work VIM has done to date, then be part of the discussion about where we go from here!

VIM 17.07.2020

On Sept 18 we'll be gathering at Creekside Community Centre, looking out over the site of the future music venue, to discuss, listen and gather feedback to help shape VIM's vision for an independent music venue. Join us and add your voice to the chorus! We're looking for music makers and creators from every possible genre to be part of this conversation. Tickets are free, and the venue is fully accessible. Thanks to Creative BC for supporting our Conversation Series!

The Making of Splendor (from the Splendor Amsterdam website): "The Concept - In 2010, a group of enterprising musicians, composers and artists had a plan: invest in a place where everything is possible, where experimentation knows no bounds and where artists and their public connect to inspire each other. The Musicians - Splendor is run by a group of 50 exceptional musicians from every nook and cranny of the international music scene. Splendor is a second home for them and th...eir public, but also for the vast number of musicians from the Netherlands and abroad that come to rehearse or perform there. The 50 core musicians invest 1000 and play several times a year for the members. In exchange, the building is theirs 365 days a year to create, explore and producewherever their imagination takes them. The Members - The best part of the success of Splendor is that they achieve it together with their members. For just 100 a year, you can go to 50 concerts for free conceived and presented by one of the 50 Splendor musicians. These member concerts are the perfect moment to connect with the musicians: we love to chat, have a drink together and exchange ideas on how we can make Splendor even more exciting."

Special thanks to Anne La Berge and David Dramm for adding the English sub-titles for their presentation for the VIM House Conversation in Vancouver last Saturday, July 28. What an amazing hub for all kinds of music for all kinds of people of all ages, those who play, those who create and those who listen!

Many thanks to Splendor for loaning two of your 50 founding members, David Dramm, Anne La Berge and your stalwart business manager Norman van Dartel to share in detail how this inspiring and successful model for a music hub works. So good!
