Vineyard View Farm 26.02.2021

The vines are loving the heat, the sun and now all this rain, so is the orchard.

Yesterday was very productive in my vineyard. Lots of cleanup still happening in the first season since hurricane Dorian tore right through the upper portion in September 2019, which was after the late Spring frost of 2018 which had destroyed the entire vineyard, but recovery has begun. its was a lot of strenuous physical labour bur so excited to see the first leaves and small fruit bud clusters appearing on a few varietals. So the work continues...tonight I enjoyed a lovely glass of my 2015 Vineyard View Foch, a delicious robust red wine that paired perfectly with Burgers from locally sourced lamb for dinner.

Yesterday was a good day, 5 hours in the Vineyard, and I'm happy to report there's been some vine recovery, noticeably, L'Acadie and Marechal Foch so far...hopefullt a week of sunshine will aid the recovery.,

It's now spring in the Vineyard. The snow has been gone for a week and The cuttings that were pruned a month ago are now ready to root for plantings in June. The pheasants are doing a wonderful job scratching up the underbrush and the Cardinals and Blue Jays are happily eating any leftover dried fruit from last year. The small birds are collecting nesting material and the eagles flying over are lunching on the occasional vol or deer mouse. I haven't seen one yet I've smelled skunk which are happily eating up some of the early grubs and ants. The vines are very dormant still. The sunrises are beautiful and we're working from dawn till dusk and observing the rules of social distancing.

The Vineyard is starting to shape up it’s very cold but it’s receiving a new blanket of snow tonight and looks better after some significant Chainsaw removal today of the fallen windbreak trees which were toppled with hurricane Dorian.A good thing to do to celebrate national agriculture day today.

the vineyard is sleeping under a blanket of snow protecting it from the bitter cold, fingers crossed the temp doesnt dip below -28 (with windchill)as that will damage the vines which showed signs of recovery after the late frost in 2018.
