OPEN FOR BUSINESS

Stokanagan Skate Community 13.12.2020

Hello everyone, I have to apologize about not posting on here very much, but I do get asked the same question over and over, "When you gonna open?" So much so i...n fact that it keeps me up at night pondering that same question. I do feel excited about this year though, I managed to get a lot more organized, prepared and winterized before the snow hit, but I have definitely been lacking the correspondence needed to update people to what's going on up at the hill, major squirrel brain when it comes to sitting at a desk I guess you could say, so this morning I'm going to answer some frequently asked questions, and hopefully this will clarify some things. #1 Why did you change the name from Crystal? I didn't. Crystal resort is still alive, though dormant, and we operate on the property in a symbiotic relationship with them, one day they may get everything straightened out and reopen the triple chair and install some more lifts, but for me that is quite outside of what I'm capable of, or even wanting to take on at this point. My goal is to keep growing and improving the adventure park, having concerts and events, skating, the terrain park, night skiing, back country, snow cat rides, atv/ snowmobile tours, mountain biking to name a few, and to keep rebuilding and preserving the history of this amazing place, and one day, hopefully, the whole mountain will reopen again, and it will be that much better. #2 "Will and when will you be open?" Last year we were open by donation and for the most part that was a very expensive way to prove our concept, but it was still a success in many ways, and unfortunately we were kiboshed by covid and had to cancel our spring plans, but it has not deterred us from pushing forward this year. I met with my volunteer Park planners this past weekend and we will definitely have the park up and going as well as skating, shows, events and a whole bunch more that I will announce as I get it sorted. I am working hard to get everything in place for an opening day of December 19th. #3, "Can I stop in and see what's going on, maybe help out?" Absolutely, if the gate is open come on in and have a chat, if it's closed I might not be around. The sign saying no stopping is for in front of the gate and the turn around. Our dogs Suka and Moose had 6 puppies last November, and so we have at least 3 here full time but sometimes there may be as many as 8, so when people stop at the gate the dogs with their pack mentality have a tendency to chase them as far as telemark. It's a trait hard to break in huskies, but they'll be awesome sled dogs this year. #4 "Why should we come up to Crystal when we have tobogganing at the corner?" The corner is extremely dangerous and every season we pull so many vehicles out of the ditch it's pretty much a daily occurrence, as well with the cars all over the place the plow can't navigate through, thus making it even more difficult for us. We have our own plow truck to help with keeping it clear down to Telemark as AIM was struggling to get organized, and we plow our lot for anyone coming up, just don't Park in our turnaround because the plow will have to back all the way down, and will refuse to come again. (That's my biggest peave) The corner seems to be a huge dumping ground, every spring and fall I take the back hoe down and remove all kinds of trash, you name it I've taken it out, so this season drive another minute up the road and come see what we have to offer. #5 "Will you be selling season passes?" This pandemic is hard on us all, both emotionally and economically, and for me I have no idea what regulations will be in place come Dec. So my plan is to sell Bull bucks, no expiration, use them when you can for what you want, skating, board park, a snow cat ride, mountain biking or a concert next spring etc, if we all support each other eventually we will get through this. That pretty much sums up the frequently asked questions, if you have any, or thoughts/ concerns my number is 250 826 4595, [email protected]. I am also looking to hire someone to give me a hand in the office, help with marketing and organizing for this season so if you're interested send your resume to above email. Here are some pictures of the year. Have a great day! Don. https://photos.app.goo.gl/LFwR6WF7xkZz9pnq7 See more

"The Kamloops Longboard Park started as a dream in 2012, and it became a full-fledged reality in the fall of 2014. The park is maintained by the Kamloops Longboard Club (KLC), a non-profit organization currently headed up by president Patrick Mutrie, and vice-president William Chung."
