Congratulations Steve McCullough on your induction into the Ontario Lacrosse Hall of Fame.
For my good friend Joel Watson. A gift from a son to a proud lacrosse father.
Received these snaps of some BLC treasures on a reach out. Does anybody know anything about the "New Athletic Stadium", where it was located etc...?
Meet Ron Martinello, the heart and soul of Windsor Lacrosse. Here, among other things, he gives a brief history of Windsor lacrosse and his own biography. I think his contribution to the game after his playing days has surpassed his legend as a player. https://youtu.be/C9JrSH_ZChE
Had one of those moments yesterday. I gave this to my good friend and Hawk teammate John Boothby. He gave me a piece of his work that will be a family heirloom for generations. Must have been the drywall dust but there were tears in both our eyes. From my entire Family, thank you John.
A St. Christopher House Builder, Bob Opperman
A few Hall of Famers in this pic of the 1955 Tuscarora Senior B Champions. Any help pointing out the players would be greatly appreciated.
'73-'74? A St. Christopher House team ready's for the start. Would like to know some names if anybody out there can help. I think I spot Jeff Sparks as bench staff and Frank Torre in the back.
I feel compelled to reiterate this Bishop quote. I'm not from Huntsville, but I feel such a bond to the "remnants" of this man. They are the greatest people I know. Reg, Ronnie, Puffer, Bouch, Pep, Dewy, Scoot and many others. I'm blessed. Image
"There's nothing left to prove" - Jim Bishop.
Masters indeed. How could you lose with a team like this? Answer: We didn't.
A couple of members in the "Never Miss" Club. John "Shooter" Davis and Jim "J.J." Johnston
Two Thistle draft picks that made a lasting impression on Fergus Lacrosse history. Mike Kluwak and Phil Scarfone.
Face-off. I see me, Reg Holinshead, Ron Holinshead, Steve Churley, Lyndsay Sanderson and Terry Sanderson.
Every day is throwback day at Vintage LaX. Here ya go - Mid 80's - The Glory Years - Brooklin Redmen - Keenan - Nieuwendyk. Legend!
Mid 80's Scarborough Saint's Greg Williams about to put the hurt on Redmen's John Dark.
"Downtown Ronnie Brown" Racked up a lot of points with this guy over the years. Played with him from Pee Wee to Major. Chemistry.
The Vintage LaX 2021 Calendar. Available soon for online orders through Vintagelax.com. Special fundraising costing for minor organizations. #GrowTheGame
Can't wait to get back to the "Rez" to shoot some LaX and see what hilarious sign Doolittle's has up.
When you talk about Huntsville lacrosse, the conversation always leads to Bishop. Little known fact: One of the greatest Women's laxers of all time is also a Huntsville product. Gail Cummings-Danson.
When they start to refer to you by using only your first initial, for example "R" in the Windsor lacrosse community refers to a specific individual, you've transcended your own being. I can think of a "J" in Huntsville, and a "T" in Orangeville. Anybody else care to give a letter so we can guess who and where.
The 2021 Vintage LaX Calendar. 13 historic pictures of our great game captured through the lens of my father David Prothero Sr. R.I.P Dad and thank you.
I guess that leaves only January left to reveal but I'm sure it's no surprise. The photo I've selected for the January page is, of course, Gaylord Powless.
A legendary net minder from coast to coast and 1993 inductee into the Canadian Lacrosse Hall of Fame. The VL 2021 Calendar October feature is Larry Smeltzer.
Sad to hear of the recent passing of Bruce Murdock I've made the VL 2021 Calendar March highlight pic of Bruce in his days as an Etobicoke PCO.
A 2020 inductee in the Whitby Sports Hall of Fame, Gil Nieuwendyk. Thought I'd make a spot for him in the 2021 Vintage LaX Calendar. February.
Vintage LaX 2021 September page. For the goalie Union out there. Just a sick save by Scarborough Saints Kent Wentzell on Owen Sound North Star's Stu Aird.
April page in the Vintage LaX calendar. Growing the game is a passion, not a job. Here's to those that understand. Proud to say these three are still my friends today. Paul St. John, Bill Fox and Jerry Fitzgerald. Had to throw in a field pic.
Probably the best player I have ever played with or have seen play (in my humble opinion) Ron Martinello. A Warlock legend and Maryland Terrapin All-American. He's in Windsor quietly growing the game. Check out that top right bury from 1980. August.
Father's day is June. Vintage LaX has been a father son thing since inception. June will always be a reminder of those special moments. My June selection, one of those moments between two great men.
Ever since I saw this guy put an underhand in the top corner from the top of the power play on a downed Buff McCready, he was one of my favourite players to watch. The month of May honours Etobicoke great Bill Sheehan.
By the time December rolls around, Champions have been crowned and we reflect that winning IS everything. My selection for the December pic in the 2021 Vintage LaX calendar.
Gracing the July page of the Vintage LaX 2021 calendar is Tony Rose
Griffin great Darryl Snider is remembered in the 2021 Vintage LaX calendar November pic. R.I.P Darryl. You will always be remembered here.
It's here!!!! I am thrilled at the end result. Design and layout by my daughter Michelle from Impression House Orillia. I wish my father was alive to see what his own blood has done to honour his contribution to our beloved game. #GrowTheGame
With deepest sympathies to the entire Murdock family I post notice of the passing of Bruce S. Murdock. I watched a lot of this guy and his brother Paul play when I was younger. Rest peaceful Bruce. You will always be remembered here. Legend. https://www.maurerfuneralhome.com/obituary/bruce-murdock
In 1990 my father suffered a devastating stroke. It left him paralyzed on his right side. In 1993, after extensive physiotherapy, he returned to Ted Reeve. Using only his left hand, he snapped one more roll of film. This shot may have been his last.
This game is all about respect. If you can combat an opponent for 60 minutes, then trade stories about it before you've left the battlefield, you got it. That's me and Ladd Staats in 1985. A very young Corey Bomberry is more interested in bangin' twine.
Talk about leadership and team chemistry and I'll show this. 1975 LLA Juvenile Champions. A lot of big men in this room but nobody bigger than our Coach, Don Yaschyshyn.
My Megan, just like her dad. The stick is personal, you spend a lot of time to make it personal. I'll be goddamned if I'm going to share it with you or even let you touch it. 2003 by the way.
3000th Like!!! Thank you Allison Bullen of Huntsville (no, the fix wasn't in...lol) for being the Vintage LaX 3000th like. Allison will receive a 16x20 Canvas Print of Gaylord Powless. It is my father's most iconic and most published photograph. Thank you Allison.
What a beautiful Barn she is. Ted Reeve Arena still stands today and holds the memories and storied past of great lacrosse players of years gone by. I should know, I played with most of them.
I think I jinxed my page. I’m waiting for my 3000th like so I can present my Major Award to that person but I’m minus two so far.
Great then...I'll take a hundred.
Okay. I'm going to go a little deep on this one. If you studied Shakespeare, you know that every tragic Hero had a tragic flaw. Jack in his prime...but that damned knee!
Please indulge me for a moment. I want to share a message I received from Dave Matthews, son of Vern "Tuffy" Matthews. It is support like this that keeps me going. Hi Tim, I just read your "Me & Dad" posting....Continue reading
Here's Jack Bionda with the Minto Cup when he played with Brampton.
Part 2. Where's Jack? (Bionda)
Name that Barn.
Teaser: My 3000th like will receive a 16x20 canvas of one of my dad's most iconic pictures. But this isn't it.
No stripes on that jersey. Legendary Referee Bill Fox on legendary netminder/innovator Rod Bannister. 1980 Mann Cup. Brampton Memorial Arena.
Yeah that's Derek Keenan in back. Lookin' like he'd rather be somewhere else.
If James Holzhauer is my 3000th like I’ll be very disappointed.
1981 Pine Point Arena. #20 NHL Hockey legend Adam Oates in his office.
The @GreengaelsJRB family mourns the loss of former Coach Ian Wailes. He was one of the coaches of our 2000 Founders Cup Championship team. Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Wailes family at this time.
My 3000th like will receive a 16 x 20 canvas print of one of my fathers most iconic photographs. Any guesses on what that image is?
Here's a father/son Christmas present from Jon Mason to his father, Fergus goaltender, Rob Mason.
For my good friends and family Jeff Powless, Les and Kyler. I met Jeff the first year of CLAX and we've been friends ever since.
Scarborough Saints Kent Wentzel with a miraculous save on Owen Sound's Stu Aird
Wishing my brother-in-law Wayne "Hackett" Stahls a happy birthday today.
This whole pic is Greatness. Laker's goalie Shawn Quinlan in net. #12 - John Grant Sr. defending Brookin's John Dark(?). Gerrard Cowie follows and Tommy Wreggit in back.
The soft hands of Beach boy Neil Harris. 13th in All-Time Jr. B scoring.
@LacrosseUp @LaxBrand A man amongst boys. The great @BeachesLacrosse and Fergus Thistle Mike Kluwak R.I.P. Tougher than a $2 steak.
Thanks everyone for the Likes. Only 58 more to reach 3000.
Bellies Hall of Famer Big Mac Tyler doing what he did best.
‘72 Pro lacrosse Toronto Shooting Stars vs. New West Bellies. Jack Chisholm buries one on their way to a win.
Flashback '78 when we changed the field game forever, defeating a dominant and stellar group of Americans in overtime.
Back in the day, my dad and I would travel out Sunday evenings to Rexdale to watch the Rexdale Warriors Jr. A's play. Here's two snipers from that great team. Mike Donnelly and the late great Dave Huntley. Together, they went on to star at Johns Hopkins U.
