The darkness of an Ontario winter tends to keep us indoors, maybe near a wood stove, listening to music or glued to a TV. Local artist Jeff Wildgen spearheaded ...this unique community arts initiative bringing a little light into all of our lives. It’s based on a Japanese tradition, to create packed snow lanterns and whimsical ice sculptures helping to illuminate darker areas in cities and towns. Jeff, with the support of the City of Belleville, the Quinte Arts Council and Downtown District BIA, is building something for all of our community to enjoy along the Riverfront Trail. You are invited to be a part of this beautiful light art and you can start in the comfort and safety of your own home. Build a light lantern in the comfort and safety of your own home. Fill it with natural elements only, add a candle and, on your walk down by the Riverfront Trail, while still staying physically distant, leave your lantern amid the display for all to see.
