She considers herself privileged to b...e able to engage in this community work and aims to develop a career that will allow her to utilize policy and other aspects of the political process to fight for the rights of the most vulnerable among us. #internationalwomensday2020 #internationalwomensday #communitywork #brampton #equitablerepresentation See more
Miranda Baksh is the co-founder of the Community Climate Council in Brampton, working to address local climate change issues and focuses on creating solutions with municipal leaders, encouraging youth to take policy-based approaches, and educates the intergenerational community to improve climate literacy. As an environmental educator with the Toronto Region Conservation Authority and after completing her masters research related to park management and conservation biology, h...er passion lies within species conservation. However, no conservation effort can be as effective in the long-term without confronting the issues surrounding climate change. After researching at the Caribbean Community Climate Change Centre in Belize and at York University’s EcoCampus in Costa Rica, Miranda was able to see the effects between climate change and human-ecological health first hand. Along with biodiversity conservation, she is mainly motivated by understanding that many communities around the world who are currently face the social, health and financial consequences of climate change, are highly vulnerable and the least responsible for global carbon emissions.
