2010 ( 1..) .. !... Can’t we try? 4 I can’t do it., I am going to fail., I’m not doing it., Forget about it. It’s not that hard, trying, facing the obstacle, fighting the monster named ‘Fear’. A little girl was born. She looked beautiful and sweet. However, the doctor reported terrible news to her parents that she had hearing difficulties! Her disease was severe. She could barely hear a train tooting next to her. When she turned thirteen, she decided to become a ballerina. Imagine, dancing without hearing the music! She knew it was not going to be easy, but she also knew that giving up before even trying is not a good idea. She practiced about 10 times harder than regular ballerinas. She had to memorize the whole moves and the beats, since she couldn’t hear the music. Sometimes, her toenails fell off from working too hard. In the age of sixteen, she was in a ballet competition. Because she didn’t hear the music start, she was off-beat the whole time. She never gave up and became the only deaf ballerina in the world. This girl is my father’s younger sister, Jinhee Kang. Everyone is afraid of something. Fear stops us from stepping up and being eager to try new and difficult things. We have to believe that anything can be possible when we try something new. We need to think positively and face the obstacles. If you face the hardship, you will become happy and enjoy your life. An example of facing a fear is the roller coaster in Playland. If you face that fear and ride the roller coaster, you can be proud of yourself and enjoy visiting Playland even more. Look back at the history of the world. There are a lot of great men and women who had difficult backgrounds. Beethoven became deaf but composed many great pieces of music. Helen Keller, who became both blind and deaf at a young age, became a well-known social worker. Churchill, who was the prime minister of England, couldn’t say S’s properly and stammered when he was a child. All of them had dreams and goals that were especially difficult for them to achieve, and that made them become great. If you try something, but it doesn’t work out, don’t get frustrated. Maybe it wasn’t for you. You still have a lot of time to improve yourself. Also, it is important that you put a lot of effort into your work. Participating and putting effort into whatever you do is even more important than being successful. We can improve the quality of our lives simply by trying hard.
