While we all enjoy the post Christmas glow, take a moment to live through our merriest of Elves, who explored the lights in our Leave the Light On installation! Did you know many of these lights will be up through March? Some of them YEAR ROUND. All businesses and residences are encouraged to leave their lights up through March, to keep this cheer moving straight through second lockdown until the first crocuses are ready to burst.... The Leave the Light On initiative is brought to you through the partnership of the Municipality of Kincardine + Kincardine Chamber + Lakeside Downtown Kincardine Thank you to our sponsors: Bruce Power, OPG, Enbridge, Epcor, Canadian Tire Kincardine, Worley, Sargent & Lundy, Bruce County Local Section AACE, Lions Club and Rotary Club. As the pandemic continues to force the cancellation of activities, and the days get progressively shorter (and darker), this winter we’re encouraging you ALL to #leavethelighton this season! We plan to illuminate this great municipality and we want you to be a part of the safe harbour we are proud to call home. The holidays may feel a little different this year, but we want to ensure that they look better than they ever have. Plenty of new light installations will be on disp...lay throughout the municipality from November through March and we hope you’ll join us by shining your bright light as well! *COMING SOON* Participating businesses and residences will be able to submit their address to the Municipal website to be put on a map, which will be available for download and to be opened in a maps app on a smartphone. These will be both walking and driving tours. Sponsorship and volunteer information is also available on the website. Stay tuned for collaboration with neighbouring municipalities and pop up features as things progress! This year, in place of the Lakeside Downtown Kincardine 'Halloween Spooktacular' event, the Kincardine BIA is going to #payitforward! Part of the fun of this annual event is of course getting to see all the little ghosts and goblins in their costumes. So the twist this year is that your pictures of the costumed kiddos be shared with the BIA using the hashtag #downtownkincardine (starting now), and with every photo, $10 will be donated to the Kincardine Food Bank! A great way to support the community and get the kids involved! #happyhalloween #giveback #trickortreat

A BIG thanks to the Primeau & Wolfe Families for putting this amazing display together at the Davidson Centre as part of the Leave the Light On initiative! Stay tuned as we continue to feature more displays throughout the season! www.kincardine.ca/light-on First Nations Display - The Dream Catcher... The Ojibwe (Chippewa) believe that the night is full of both good and bad dreams. When a dream catcher is hung above the place where you sleep, it moves freely in the night air and catches the dreams as they drift by. The good dreams, knowing their way, pass through the opening in the centre of the webbing while the bad dreams, not knowing the way, are caught in the webbing and destroyed at the first light of the morning sun. There are many variants to the dream catcher legend, some which say both the good and bad dreams are captured and some which say the good dreams slide down the feather to those sleeping below. Although the Ojibwe are credited as the first people to use dream catchers, many other tribes and Native peoples have adopted dream catchers into their culture. Even though the designs and legends of dream catchers differ slightly, the underlying meaning and symbolism is universal and is carried across cultures and language barriers. Everybody Dreams!
