MARTYR ANNIVERSARY: On this day in 1536, William Tyndale was burned at the stake for translating the bible into the English language. His last words: "Lord, ope...n the King of England's eyes. For Tyndale, the Bible "for the people" meant that all could drink from the truth itself, without pressure or pretext. Two years after Tyndale's death, King Henry authorized the distribution of the Matthew bible, much of it Tyndale's work. See more
