On this day 72 years ago, the newly formed United Nations General Assembly formally adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Now available in over 500 languages, the Declaration is the most translated document in the world. Since then, December 10 has been marked worldwide as Human Rights Day. This year's COVID-19 crisis has exacerbated many human rights issues, from deepening poverty and inequality to the erosion of democracy and civil society in many places.
