Miss seeing all my fellow artists in the VAW but hope you are all staying well and happy. Christmas is coming and this time last year we had a wonderful party at the Chippawa Park Community Room, so much fun. I know we will again, maybe next year. Hope we can get the meetings up and going again soon but we have to wait until it is safe. Drop us a line so we know how you are all doing and if you have any ideas to run by us for the group to do. The Donation Draw basket tickets for November at the Visual Artists of Welland Seaway Mall Gallery will be pulled and the lucky winner notified tomorrow morning. We thank all our supporters for our Bursary Donation Baskets for October and November. But...the fun isn't over yet. The December Donation Draw basket is ready to go with fabulous items like the beautiful necklace from Sapphires Jewelry in Fonthill ( $159 value), A signed pennant from the Ice Dogs Hockey Team along w...ith ticket vouchers, $50 gift cards from Taris on the Water and Vermeers and a few other surprises! Because many of the items would make amazing gifts, this draw will take place on December 20th, just in time for Christmas giving so hurry in to make your $5 donation and receive 3 chances at the basket. It's Monday morning and the cold weather seems to be here to remind us that winter is on the way. This means we will be indoors more and settling in for a few months of family time and painting. We as a group have managed to keep in touch and support each other so let's keep it up. We want to see your posts of what you are doing, what projects you are involved in, your latest works and most of all just to make sure we stay connected. In turn, Deedee and I will keep you posted with any updates on the Gallery at the Mall as well as any other projects in the works for the Visual Artists of Welland. We miss our monthly meetings and laughter but they will come again. Until then, stay safe, stay warm and keep creating.

Each Month the Visual Artists of Welland are having a Donation Draw at the Seaway Mall Gallery which consists of a wonderful basket filled with prizes donated by local businesses and organization. The October draw was done on October 31st at the Gallery and the happy winner was Nicole Noonan. We want to thank the businesses who contributed to October- Taris on the Water, Ice Dogs, Pat Haftar Art Studio, Welland Winery and Supplies, Greg Frewin Theatre and McDonald's. We have... started a new draw to take place on November 30th with a basket container donated items from Paul's Garden Centre, Best Western Rose City Suites, Ice Dogs, Pat Haftar's Art Studio and the Niagara River Lions, along with a few extra goodies. For a $5 donation you can receive 3 chances for the basket. All the money raised goes towards the Art and Creative Scholarships we have set up for 5 local Secondary Schools. Please come out to see the beautiful work on display, maybe pick up a Christmas gift or something for yourself, just browse, and donate to the November ( and later the December) draw basket. Thank you to everyone who has wished the Visual Artists of Welland Gallery Shop at the Seaway Mall well. Especially to Beverley Sneath for the floral arrangement and to the Friends of Roselawn Centre.

This week the VAW is embarking on two very different but exciting projects. The first is the Silver Linings Silent Art Auction in support of Womens Place which is being held courtesy of Lucas Spinosa, at the wonderful Black Sheep Lounge. Niagara Street, Welland. It runs from Sept 16th to 27th and all proceeds from the beautiful paintings donated by approximately 26 artists will go to the shelter for abused women and children. Bids start at $50 and increase in $5 increments ...to a max of $85. Imagine owning an original work of art and helping a worthy cause in the bargain. The second is the setting up of a 3 month Art Gallery at the Seaway Mall with 22 amazing artists displaying and selling their work. Each month will change so you can come out several times for something new. There will be our Secondary School Art Bursary Donation Draws- one for each month and the lucky winners will take home some exciting prizes donated by local businesses. All the proceeds from these draws go to help with the 5 Secondary School bursaries awarded by the Visual Artists of Welland. The Seaway Mall has made this possible through a generous arrangement and we are certainly happy to help promote all the local businesses at 800 Niagara Street. The Grand Opening will be on October 1st, 11 a.m. and the Gallery will operate daily until December 30th, 2020. We look forward to seeing you there, and Covid 19 protocols will be in place- masks, limited numbers in the Gallery and hand sanitizer. The Visual Artists of Welland Gallery, in the Seaway Mall, had it's ribbon cutting ceremony today, October 1st. A huge thank you to Vance Badawey, Niagara Centre MP, Welland Mayor, Frank Campion, and Seaway Mall President, Mike Belcastro. Thank you to everyone who helped organize and attend this event. We are officially open - during mall hours of course :)

I always like to post something eyecatching when I make an announcement. lol. The Seaway Mall Gallery Event which is scheduled for October to December now has 22 wonderful artists signed up to display and sell their work. This means anyone who wishes to can now be placed on a waiting list in case there is a) more room than we hoped or b) an unexpected vacancy due to someone withdrawing. If you are interested in being on this list, please contact one of the Board members. There is no fee collected unless you are able to gain entry to the Gallery space for your work. Congratulations to all the members who decided to take advantage of this amazing opportunity. Participating artists will be contacted when more information is available.

The Visual Artists of Welland, Gallery Art Show is filling up fast. After our wonderful open air meeting at Chippawa Park on Tuesday, we now have 20 artists signed up. There are two places left to be filled before we will begin a waiting list for those who may want to participate but were late signing up. This is an amazing opportunity for our members to show and shine during the fall months leading up to and including Christmas. Thank you to the Seaway Mall for allowing the Artists a place to continue our community involvement, and to let the public come out and see something to lift their spirits during this unusual time. Good Morning VAW members and I hope you are all enjoying this lovely sunshine today! In case you havent noticed, our new website is up and running thanks to our webmaster Tina Clancy. Since Tracy decided to step back we felt it was a good time to reinvent our site and Tina graciously stepped forward. If you havent seen it, please go to visualartistsofwelland.com and have a look. This morning the Visual Artists of Welland had the Grand Opening of their Gallery at the Seaway Mall. Please come out to visit us many times over the 3 months we are there.

All sales from donated pieces will support "Serenity Place - Welland, Womens Place of South Niagara" - chosen by the VAW Members. The minimum bid start at $50 and will rise in $5 increments to a max amount of $85. You can walk in, bid the max amount, and pay your $85, and walk out with your painting :) Dont delay 2 paintings already sold!!

WE are going to enter Phase 2 of the reopening and that means one step closer to being able to see all our members again! I know we have a ways to go, and we have to behave but it gives me hope and a real boost. Enjoy the sun, the lovely weather, painting, spending time with a few more of your family and friends and keep in touch. Miss you all.

Dear Members and Visitors, A warm welcome from both Deedee Alexandre and Pam Duncan, Co-Presidents of the Visual Artists of Welland. We hope everyone is keeping safe and healthy during these unprecedented times. While at home, many of our members have been taking advantage of the available time to paint. Consequently, the Board members would like everyone to know that as soon as it is safe to do so, the VAW will be organizing the Silver Linings Art Show and Sale. ... The date and time will be determined by the Board and members once the Health Department deems that the pandemic is under control, as we wish to keep both the art community and the public safe. It will be at that Exhibit where VAW members will be able to donate one painting; the proceeds from the sales will go to a charity affected by the pandemic, as decided by the Board and members. Good Morning Everyone. Just checking in to see how we are all doing. I know as a group you are connecting with friends and family and trying to keep upbeat in these trying times and it isnt always easy. Remember that this will pass and we will come out the other side, though sometimes it may seem it will never end. I hope and trust you are all keeping busy, painting, sketching and making sure your creative juices are still flowing. If you have strong feelings, let them out i...n a piece of work to be shared (or not) later and this may help you feel better. Do something to donate to the Art Challenge we are running called Silver Linings and post it on Facebook to encourage others. We have 19 artists already signed up and more will come as time goes by. Stay home, stay safe and let us know how you are. Remember, we are not just an Art group, we are friends as well. See more

Good Morning to Everyone! We sent out an art challenge to our group and have received some great responses. We all want to find a way to thank the tireless workers who are keeping us safe during this time of worry. Whether they are health care, police, fire, grocery clerks, truck drivers, veterinarians, pharmacy or restaurant workers, they and many others all deserve our recognition. Its because of them we are able to stay home and shelter or isolate. The challenge to create... a piece of work to be donated for sale once this is over has hit a chord. The money will go to a charity affected by this trying time, and chosen by the group. The work will be of something that inspires you, amazes your or humbles you and there is so much we can be thankful for even while we are fearful of what will come yet. We are hoping to pull the Community together and will make this a special event in honour of all these workers when it is done, a celebration to plan for. There is more information coming and we hope more artists will join this event. See more

Finally getting around to painting my nametag!

Everyday lives are changing due to this worldwide crisis. We must stay positive in our outlook and keep looking after our friends and families to the best of our ability. Please check in with each other so we know you are ok. Spend the time you have together with your loved ones in meaningful ways, talking, laughing, doing crafts, singing, whatever makes you happiest. When this is over, and it will be, we will once again meet and talk over our experiences. Create some new pieces of art to show the world once it is safe to do so. And most of all, be the kind, considerate, wonderful people we already know you to be. Help out those you can, keep away from negative thoughts and keep in touch. We will get through this if we pull together. Keep well.

As you all know by now, the Spring Fling has been postponed which was a difficult but necessary decision made in order to protect our members and the general public, and to help with the fight against the Corona virus. We have a tentative date in September and we will keep in touch with you all by email and Facebook. Thank you for all the supportive messages we have received as we work through this, it means a lot to hear all the positive comments. Many of you have decided to... turn this into a positive and use the spare time to create new works which is not only a great idea but a great attitude. Just think what you will have to show when all this is over and the events once again can be held! This post is of my back garden and I am looking forward to seeing it sunny and bright soon. We will keep posting updates on meetings and group information and look forward to hearing back how everyone is doing so please let us know. Keep smiling and healthy. See more

The Visual Artists of Welland Spring Fling Art show and Sale to be held April 3rd, 4th and 5th at Canadas Best Value Inn is now officially open for non member artists to apply for entry. The application is available on the VAW website or by contacting [email protected] to request one emailed to you. There are only a few spots available and if you are an area artist interested in showing your work, we advise you to take a look at the website, download and file your appl...ication asap. Last year we were sold out of spaces almost as soon as it opened for non members. If you wish to apply please email and let us know so we can hold the space for you because with so few boards left (9) we dont want you to be disappointed. There are as well 2 easels remaining for rent. Fees will need to be paid and applications received before confirmation of entry is given. We look forward to hearing from any and all area artists who would like a spot in the elegant and beautiful Hotel ballroom where this show is held. Last year with over 400 visitors, 15 paintings sold along with the donation draw table and food bank collection, it was a huge success.. This year is shaping up to be the same again. See more

Those who requested second boards or easels on their applications will be contacted via email to confirm they have them. Hey every member of the VAW..listen up. The Spring Fling is quickly filling up with 26 boards definitely gone and 4 second boards on the waiting list. 4 of the 8 easels are also spoken for. You have until March 1st to secure a members only place for sure then second boards and non members are invited. If you are wanting to show at this venue on April 3rd to 5th you should get in touch with me, Tracy or Marilyn so we can reserve a board for you. We now take e transfer for paym...ent of fees or you can drop off cash or cheque at the March 16th meeting or by making special arrangements with one of the Board members in advance. Also- the labels will be made for the show but we must have the information of your work by the 28th of March, preferably by the meeting on March 16th. Great meeting last night everyone! Thank you to Jacqui Eissen of European Pantry for her wonderful demonstration of the Fusion Art products sold at her store in Welland. Thanks also to Pat Haftar and Tracy Greening for their demo and talks on proper preparation of your work for hanging at shows. Lots of applications received for the Spring Fling but still room for more and Members only apps are on until March 1st then second boards are awarded and if any left, spaces will be offered to non members. Thank you to all who attended, have contributed assistance in picking up prize donations for the draw and volunteered to help last night with many tasks. What a great group.

Morning everyone! Getting ready for the meeting tonight and we will be missing two execs- Claudia and Deedee send regrets. We will need a couple of extra bodies to help with registration for the show so please let me know if you can assist Marilyn and Tracy with this as I will be busy and probably going just a little crazy.
