ITS FINALLY HERE! This year our annual tryouts will be VIRTUAL! If you are interested in trying out for our team start by filling out our tryout survey ( https://forms.gle/MsPGZZJsYveDqEQE7 ). Everyone who fills out the survey will be sent a video of the tryout routine and the accompanying music, you will then have a until September 25th to send us a video of you doing the routine. ... From there finalists will have virtual interviews with our coach and management team and the new 2020/2021 Mariners Dance Team will be announced October 1st! We are SUPER excited to announce the two Dance Camps we are doing next week with CampVIU! For ages 6-10 We have an Introduction to Dance Camp to encourage creativity and movement freedom! On Thursday, June 25th, at 7:00PM, Fun@VIU from the Office of Co-Curricular Engagement and Learning will be hosting a Moment of Gratitude via Virtual Flashmob. Here VIU and the Nanaimo Community will be brought together to express their support for Healthcare workers around Canada and everyone who is continuing to work in all essential services.... The Mariners Dance Team would like to recognize this dancer for her four years with us as not just a teammate but also a coach, Keely Forget Keely joined the team as a dancer 4 years ago, and the following year became one of our two coaches. Keely worked alongside myself, Elissa, for 3 years, coaching and growing the team to what it is today. I can honestly say that neither of us expected the team to be what is it today but I couldn’t be more proud of the amazing things we h...ave done together. I know first hand how much time, dedication, effort, patience, creativity and hard work it takes to be a coach on this team and I know that Keely put her heart and soul into it for 3 LONG years. I could have never done any of this without her and can never truly express how thankful I am for her (or how terrifying it is to think about doing it without her). Even though we all know she is going onto bigger and better things for herself, losing Keely as a coach is really tough for us. She is not only an incredible choreographer and dancer but she has the ability to whip us into shape for any game, show or event like no one else. And as much as we hate her for making us do conditioning, we know she has our best interest in mind and we couldn’t love her more for that. Keely has a way of continuing to show up with new and crazy ideas for routines and tricks that no one will be able to beat. And even better she has her own way of explaining everything so that each and every one of us can understand. Her undeniable talent and obvious passion for the sport will no doubt continue to shine through her in everything she does. We could all go on and on about how much she means to us and this team but Instagram has a character limit so we will end by saying that she has been the most incredible coach, teammate and friend. Congratulations Keely on completing your Bachelors of Child and Youth Care, specializing in Child Protection. We can’t wait to see what amazing things you do in the future!! Thank you for everything!
