Remember to drop by our Facebook page tomorrow for Touch Tank Tuesday! We will be live at 12 pm PST. Check out these green sea urchins using an empty shell for protection from the current. Amazing
"...the loss of reef sharks has been caused by high population densities near coastal areas, lack of shark fishing regulations, and overfishing and the destructive practices that come with it."
Join us again this Tuesday, November 17 for another session of Touch Tank Tuesday! We will be on Facebook LIVE at 12 pm PST. We were asked by viewers to showcase crabs, hermit crabs, or oysters. What do you want to see?
"A Mother's Love" by Bill Helin This breathtaking piece of art was donated to VIU by a local couple. The carving is about a local Southern Resident Orca, J35, who pushed her dead calf with her head for at least 17 days off the Pacific Northwest coast. It was an unprecedented show of mourning that drew international attention. The colours and detail of the piece are truly remarkable and are best viewed in person. We look forward to incorporating it into a new display for visit...ors to see when we are able to safely open to the public again. Until then, please enjoy these pictures For more information about J35 and her calf, read here: https://api.nationalgeographic.com//orca-mourning-calf-kil
