Happy New Year! Normally, we'd be getting ready to see our choristers after a nice, long break. Obviously, we can't do that so our dreams of in-person rehearsals will have to do for now! EVM and Community Choir start tonight at 7:30 and our Youth choirs will resume next week.

As part of our ongoing inclusion work, we formed an expanded Inclusion Team in response to the rise of the BLM movement back in the spring. We continue to explore and implement ways of making sustainable and meaningful changes that better reflect our core values of inclusion and community. Read more about the team and our Co-Chairs, Dale and Adam, below! Inclusion has always been a core value of VIVA Singers Toronto since the choir was established in 2000. As years passed and... the organization continued to grow and expand, VIVA lived out this core value by ensuring singers with special needs and transgender singers were welcomed, supported and had a central place within our musical community. In the spring of 2020, Artistic Director Carol Ratzlaff and the other Artistic Staff felt strongly that much more that could be done to truly live out the value of inclusion within VIVA in a holistic sense, and so, VIVA’s new, expanded Inclusion Team was created, welcoming interested singers from every one of VIVA's choirs from Main Chorus aged singers and up. Feedback and input was sought from the wider VIVA community through an Inclusion survey in August of 2020, and the new Inclusion Team met in Sept. 2020 to begin its work of exploring and ensuring the VIVA choral community lives out its core value of inclusion in all definitions of the word. The Inclusion Team will continue to meet throughout 2020 and 2021 to develop team goals and focus groups to explore key questions that have been raised. See more

A huge congratulations to our Youth Choirs for their Virtual Concert this past weekend! We know it wasn't easy recording all those songs, but it was well worth it for a beautiful way to end this whirlwind of a year!
