Remembrance Day 2020 Video Transcipt: It’s not the battles they fought in the service it’s the battles that they have to fight outside of service and they end up losing those fights. One example, we had a Veteran he was having a real difficult struggle with pain, and he was done, and he wanted 7 days of dog food because he figured it would take 7 days for someone to find his body and he didn’t want his dog to starve in that time. So we stepped in, found out what the needs were, started advocating for him through the medical system to get him the treatments that he needed so that the pain wasn’t a factor. Totally different individual now. Totally different circumstance. But it was that, it was that daily fight of debilitating pain that he wasn’t getting any help with, that he had decided that he didn’t want to fight anymore. And a lot of our program is to prevent veteran homelessness and prevent veteran suicide. Because if we can get them in for the food, than we can find out what else is going on. What else is going on, what else do you need? You know, we might not be able to fight the battle for you, but we can certainly walk it with you. You know, as Veterans. And we’ll walk with any Veteran. You know, any of our brothers and sisters through their struggles. Thank you because without the support of the community we wouldn’t be in a position to make the impact that we do. Both male and female Canadian Veterans have a significantly higher risk of death by suicide compared to Canadians in the general population. At particular risk are the youngest male Veterans. Lest we forget the lives lost and selfless service of our Veterans Every year for the past 6 years now I have said a prayer for world peace at 1111 AM & PM. Our Veterans are truly selfless. They struggle with physical pain and other ailments related to their service. This year has affected many people in our communities including our Veterans.
