Frank Lopardo The study of diction as it pertains to singing is not a separate discipline as it is taught in conservatories and universities. It should and must be taught as a means to better vocalism and not merely an academic burden. I have found in my journey as a teacher that what really trips up a singer technically is the fundamental mistreatment of the components of the language he is singing in. My basis for this is the fact that after a 15 to 20 minute warm up in which the student excels beautifully, he or she is unable to carry over those concepts to actual composed literature. Not because of the demands of the notes on the page but because of a lack of understanding of how to execute the words beneath those notes.
