Santa Claus is coming to Town The PAB Fire Dept is taking Santa and Mrs. Claus around town on Saturday Dec. 12 starting at 1 pm, weather permitting. They will ...leave the downtown Fire Hall at 1 pm and visit as many streets as possible. There will not be any treats given out and please stay on your own property if possible and do not follow the Truck. Leave Fire Hall 1 pm precede to Water St West, up Church Hill to Legallais and Water Street East and Army Hill to Stadium Road and turnaround and back up Main Street. Up Regional/Mouse Island turn around at Base area and then First Avenue and Lakeshore Drive. Caribou Road and High St and old Grand Bay Road. Cox’s Avenue, LeGrow and Sunset and Bay St. Across to Grand Bay West, Smallwood Drive and Tavernor Drive & Dennis Hill. Return back to Fire Hall. Santa asks everyone to please practice Social Distancing as he makes his trip around town.

Cloudy with showers and strong winds throughout the region today. Most areas will see 10-20 mm of rain except Southern Labrador which could see 10-20 today and another 15-25 tonight. Winds will gust to 60 for most areas with gusts to 80 along coastal areas. The Southwest Coast will see gust to 100 except 130 in the Wreckhouse area. Highs today 20-23. Happy Wednesday!!!!

Storm surge warning in effect for Channel-Port aux Basques and vicinity Higher than normal water levels with large waves are expected near the coast. Locations: south facing shorelines from Port aux Basques to Burgeo-Ramea.... Maximum wave heights: 7 to 9 metres, breaking upon approach to shore. Time span: continuing until this evening, with the most severe conditions expected this afternoon. Next high tide: 1 P.M. to 6 P.M. today. Remarks: Large waves and pounding surf will produce higher than normal water levels along the coast, especially near high tide. These large waves can cause damage to coastal infrastructure, especially at locations that have been prone to impacts during similar events in the past. Coastal flooding is possible along the shoreline. People close to the shoreline should stay on the lookout for worsening conditions.

OConnell Drive in Corner Brook is now open to traffic. A section of OConnell from West Valley Road to University Drive was closed early this morning due to an overnight traffic accident

On September 18, 2020 at 12:42 a.m. RNC Patrol Services was patrolling the North Shore Highway near the Hughes Brook hill when a Honda Civic was observed operating at a high rate of speed. The vehicle was locked on by radar at 96 km/h in a 50 km/h zone. Police activated their emergency lights and the vehicle failed to stop and fled from police. Police did not pursue the vehicle and was last seen driving north towards Irishtown Summerside, NL. The vehicle was found a short t...ime later in a ditch in Irishtown-Summerside. The driver was located and arrested without incident. As a result of investigation, a 22 year old male resident from the North Shore area was charged with Flight from Police, Speeding and Care and Control of a Vehicle with Cannabis Readily Available to the Driver. The accused will appear in Provincial Court in December 2020. See more

On September 18, 2020 at 1:27 a.m. an officer of RNC Patrol Services was driving through Margaret Bowater Park and observed a pickup truck in a ditch with extensive damages. Passengers were located with the vehicle. The driver sustained minor, non-life threatening injuries while the passenger sustained serious non-life threatening injuries and had to be extracted from the vehicle with the assistance of the Corner Brook Fire Department. During the investigation it was revealed... that the vehicle had been stolen from Deer Lake earlier in the night. Both the male adult driver and the male adult passenger were conveyed to the Western Memorial Regional Hospital to be treated for their injuries. The incident remains under investigation. The Margaret Bowater park area of OConnell Drive remains closed from the intersection of West Valley Road to the intersection of University Drive remains closed. Charges are anticipated. See more

A sunny start to the day but we will see increasing cloud with showers this afternoon along the West and Southwest Coast. The Northern Peninsula and Southern Labrador will see some rain by tonight. Highs today between 14 and 16. Areas Gros Morne and south will see strong southeast to easterly winds gusting to 60 except 80 along some coastal areas by tonight. The Wreckhouse could see gusts of 130. Happy Tuesday!!!

Bay St. George RCMP searches fo...r missing man Timothy Collins Bay St. George RCMP is looking for a missing man, 38-year-old Timothy Collins of Stephenville, who was last seen around 1:45 a.m. on September 17, 2020, in the area of West Street and Silver Crescent in Stephenville. Collins is described as Caucasian, with brown hair and brown eyes. He is approximately 5 feet 4 inches tall and weighs around 130 pounds. He was last seen wearing dark blue jeans with button pockets on the back, a dark blue ball cap, a camo buff and a dark blue jacket. Police are concerned for Collins safety and well-being. The City of Corner Brook wishes to advise residents and businesses that a Precautionary Boil Water Advisory is in effect due to upgrades to the water distribution system through Capital Works. Areas affected are follows: - Sunnyslope Drive and all side roads... - Carberrys Road and all side roads - Lundrigan Drive - OConnell Drive #s 264-408(excluding 295-305, 356, 358) - Dykes Road and all side roads - Reids Road and all side roads - Country Road #238 - Curling area - Mount Moriah In addition, residents of the Sunnyslope area may experience water pressure fluctuation and discoloration. If you do have discoloration, please run your cold water tap until the water runs clear. Due to the time required for testing to confirm water quality in the systems, the boil water advisory is expected to remain in effect until further notice. You will be advised when the boil water advisory has been lifted. Residents can call the City of Corner Brooks Water Information Line at 634-7711 or visit the Citys official website, www.cornerbrook.com, at any time to view precautionary boil water advisories, water outages or road closures. We would like to advise residents that a large adult Lynx has been spotted near the bottom of Massey Drive. It was seen crossing the road near the Prince Charles Road intersection and headed toward the transmission line.

Fall Clean Up Week 2020 Fall Clean Up Week will be held from Monday October 5 2020, to Friday October 9, 2020. Curbside pick up will begin on Monday October 5 a...t 8:30 AM. Dumpsters will be available on the public works depot parking lot behind the municipal playground and town hall on Saturday October 3, and Sunday October 4, for anyone wishing to drop off items. The following items will be picked up at curb side: Household appliances, hot water tanks, stoves, refrigerators (ODS FREE) *Note any item such as refrigerators or air conditioners must be labeled ODS free by a certified technician. Anything not properly labeled will not be accepted. Household furniture, sofas, chairs, beds and mattresses Automotive parts - rims and small parts Garden items branches and grass cuttings (branches must be bundled) Appliances and/or metals MUST be kept separate from other items to allow for separate pickup by town employees. Items not separated will not be picked up. All smaller items should be bagged or boxed for safer pickup. The following items can not be included for collection: Tires, vehicles, propane tanks Automotive parts exceeding 35kg Hazardous materials. Construction waste from houses under construction or renovation. Residents are reminded to have all materials they wish to have picked up during clean up week at the curb. Town employees WILL NOT be picking up any item that is not at curbside. STAFF WILL START THE FINAL PICK UP AT 8:30 AM ON FRIDAY OCTOBER 9.
