Research your development agency before signing any contracts. We recommend hiring within your borders to prevent potential legal and IP issues. Who should build your app? We understand the hardship of choosing a team to turn your ideas into a reality. That’s why we created a checklist of things to consider in your preliminary research. One of them is asking if any part of the code or development process is outsourced or if it is all built in house. The importance of this is ensuring the quality remains consistent. What drives you as a woman in tech? The role of women in tech is a topic I’m extremely passionate about, for a variety of reasons. Historically, STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) have been a male-dominated, and the decisions have been made without the perspective of women at the table. I see it as extremely important for women to be technologically literate so we can meaningfully contribute to this next phase of innovation that is happening across all sectors. We ...need to be a part of the conversation and not just spectators. I think traditionally women gravitate to creative roles like marketing but its important we also gain deeper technical knowledge so we can take on larger decision making roles. We bring a unique viewpoint as well as unique traits like empathy and consensus building which are important pieces of the tech puzzle. The reason I gravitated to a role at Vog was so that I could gain more technical knowledge and have a deeper understanding of how technology powers and transforms business. What makes Vog unique for your ambitions? Vog is unique to me because of the variety of projects. I love that I am constantly challenged to solve obscure problems. As an example, we had to research suppliers to source eye drops in Canada, US, and UK one day, and the next, we were hiring an army of data entry staff to build an AI model. What drives you? Constantly learning and being challenged while being able to see that growth manifest. I love project-based work because you can see the progress of working towards a tangible end goal.
What API does for your app? Understanding the outcome is the most important first step, most clients want to know if the app can integrate with third party services such as payment gateways and mapping services. Then developers are able to evaluate if the API can support the integration. We can help utilize app functionality, check out our blog for more information: https://loom.ly/1yWjFlE
Your logo and icons are more than just aesthetics. They’re a visual representation of your brand. Both are equally as important when it comes to mobile app branding. The first step of developing a marketing strategy is to define and understand your target audience! There are three questions to ask yourself during this process. One, What does my app offer and what problem does it solve? Two, Who is most likely to benefit from my app and who should I focus on? Finally, number Three, What are the characteristics of my customers? To learn more about a target audience visit our blog here: https://loom.ly/bQgoGXI
What’s your branding? The importance of a marketing strategy when creating a mobile app refers to the overall image that your mobile app creates through an identifying symbol, mark, logo, name, word, sentence, and in any other forms. Having a full idea of what you want your branding to be is important to have before you complete your app because reskinning can be expensive and time consuming. The name of your App needs to appeal to your Target Audience. Setting the tone and concept of your app can make or break it. You want the target audience to feel like the app was made with them in mind and aligns with their core values. Keeping the name short and memorable will help to differentiate your app from others on the market. Choosing a name for your app plays an integral role in the development process. Meet Nick! Years with Vog: 2 Speciality: Back-end Development Meet our back-end developer, Nick! He studied at SAIT and joined Vog 2 years ago. Ever since joining Vog, he participated in a wide variety of projects and witnessed the company double its size. ... His favourite memory with Vog was when he attended the Amazon Web Services conference in Las Vegas along with Vince, the CEO and Jason, the CTO. Not only did he absorb new knowledge which inspired him to further optimizing clients’ projects, he also had a memorable dinner enjoying 5 pounds of lasagne! Outside of work, Nick enjoys volunteering at a local church, GCF Calgary, travelling to new places, trying new cuisines, hanging out with friends, and making (terrible) puns! He also likes sports such as hiking, biking, snowboarding, and deadlifts. Overall, when asked about his experience with Vog, he described it as fun, challenging and a lot of growth. Vog doesn’t just make apps, it grows its business, as well as its people. Anyone can walk into a job and do the job. But it’s another thing to help the company grow. By growing the company, you grow yourself. #StaffSpotlight #tech #career
