What is Boxing Day? Some say the tradition stems from Roman times when money to pay for athletic games was collected in boxes. Amongst the ruins of Pompeii, boxes made out of earthenware with slits in the top full of coins have been found. Later the Romans brought the idea of collecting boxes to Britain, and monks and clergy soon used similar boxes to collect money for the poor at Christmas. On the day after Christmas, the priests used to open the boxes and distribute the contents to the poor of the village. Thus this day came to be called Boxing Day. #boxingday #giving #inclusion #warmwishes #sharing #beavoice #voicesofautism

Humbug Day! The day is an excellent time to both express our Scrooginess and also take stock of our expectations. Perhaps there’s room to simplify this holiday and lessen our load. When we do, we might find a way to replenish our joy and spread a little, too. #HumbugDay
Maple syrup was first collected, processed, and used by the indigenous peoples of North America then adopted by the European settlers who gradually refined production methods. In the 1970s further refinements in syrup processing were made with technology advances. #maplesyrupday

#SpeakUp2SaveLives As leaders in SUDEP Action: Making every epilepsy death count (Sudden Unexpected Death in Epilepsy) and epilepsy deaths for over 25 years, SUDEP Action know the topic of SUDEP raises questions and can be worrying for many to think about. But SUDEP Action Day is here to help people take positive steps towards reducing epilepsy risks. The pandemic has highlighted huge inequalities and we know that SUDEP, epilepsy risks and epilepsy deaths are one of the negle...cted areas, made worse by COVID-19. Thousands of people with epilepsy, their carers and health workers have report through SUDEP Action’s international research project that: epilepsy risks have worsened, people with epilepsy are having more trouble accessing the care and services they need health professionals are worried their patients are not seeking help if they’re epilepsy is getting worse and bereaved families say pain they have lived with for decades has been made worse during 2020 That is why this year we want you to #SpeakUp2SaveLives and encourage vital conversations on epilepsy risks and SUDEP. Whether you have a little time, or a lot; if you can #SpeakUp2SaveLives you will be raising much needed awareness which could help people with epilepsy around the world live safely and help save lives! Together we can #SpeakUp2SaveLives this SUDEP Action Day See more

Labour Day is upon us! Did you know? The origins of Labour Day can be traced back to April 15, 1872, when the Toronto Trades Assembly organized Canada's first significant demonstration for worker's rights. The aim of the demonstration was to release the 24 leaders of the Toronto Typographical Union who were imprisoned for striking to campaign for a nine-hour working day. At this time, trade unions were still illegal and striking was seen as a criminal conspiracy to disrupt tr...ade. In spite of this, the Toronto Trades Assembly was already a significant organization and encouraged workers to form trade unions, mediated in disputes between employers and employees and signaled the mistreatment of workers. #voicesofautism #workersrights #action #advocacy #beavoicenotanecho https://youtu.be/6OWjSS_flnI
