Today the province of Ontario announced a stay-at-home order beginning Thursday at 12:01 am. The Premier seemed shaken by the numbers he learned about last week as he told Ontarians to ‘stay home, stay safe, save lives’. But he’s still not enabling many to do what he’s asking of us all, as he continues to deny paid sick days. For many in this province a day of missed work means missed groceries, missing rent, or a lost job. We’ll continue to have illlness in workplaces and cl...assrooms because people have no choice. You might not need this policy change for yourself, but you need it for everyone in your community to protect public health. My family knows the consequences. There is no viable plan without paid sick days. They save lives, now and always. #COVID19Ontario #onpoli #paidsickdays

Cases continue to rise in Ontario as businesses struggle, kids are kept out of schools, and our long-term care homes are in crisis. Every day more Ontarians lose their lives and loved ones. I know how painful it is to lose someone you love to a vaccine-preventable disease, knowing one more vaccination in our community could have saved his life. Vaccination has started, and every one brings hope. But as of today, more than half the doses Ontario has received remain in freezer...s where they can’t protect anyone. We should use what we have as quickly as we’re able. None of this will get better until the majority of us have had access to vaccines. There are 14.5 million of us in Ontario and we have a long way to go. It’s appropriate to ask for this process to be efficient, transparent, and guided by public health experts. Everyone will need two doses, and initial doses must be distributed as quickly as possible. And in the meantime, we all need to take every step we can to prevent the spread of infection. Stay safe, all. Track the doses we’ve received and administered here: https://covid19tracker.ca/vaccinationtracker.html #Covid19Ontario #CovidVaccine

It was back to school today for families and education workers across Ontario, but it was a shift for those of us whose kids have been attending in person since September, and today were again learning from home. I know today was challenging for a lot of us. In our house it was a day of going between two kids with different synchronous learning schedules, troubleshooting tech issues, and handling tears. It was tough and my inbox and newsfeeds are filled with experiences like ...ours - from parents and teachers. As we see our daily case rates settling in above ~3000, it feels hard to believe our kids might be back to class in a week, when few measures have been taken to make our classrooms safer. They continue to attend full-size classes in poorly-ventilated rooms, where the best option now is to leave windows open for circulation. It's pretty cold. We needed to see more steps taken by the province to protect our kids, education workers, families, and communities. Those steps were promised in the summer and never came through. Today was hard, and this week feels unnecessarily chaotic and stressful for kids, parents, and teachers. But I can't stress enough how great our teachers are during this. We can see their efforts coming through and I'm so grateful to everyone who is working so hard to make this year work, in whatever way necessary, for the two million students in this province. Thank you to you all. I don't know what the next weeks or months hold, but I know how fortunate we are to have so many people who care so much about all our kids. All of this is hard, and I hope you know how appreciated you are. #onted #onpoli #Covid19Ontario Ontario Liberal Party / Parti Libéral de l'Ontario

It brings hope every time we see another Ontarian receive their vaccine for COVID-19. There are 14.5 million of us and we need to see vaccinations administered at a faster pace. ~100,000 vaccines are in freezers while cases continue to rise and our neighbours and loved ones are dying. Our long-term care homes are in crisis and ICUs are full. None of this is easy and we should expect some complications in delivering vaccines to this many people, but the vaccine is key to getti...ng to the other side of this pandemic. Ontario needs to pick up the pace. #Covid19Ontario #Covid19Ontario #onpoli #publichealth #herdimmunity #communityimmunity https://ontarioliberal.ca/ontario-dead-last-in-canada-to-r/

Today Ontario reported 2923 more cases of COVID-19, and 19 more people have lost their lives. 4463 Ontarians have died from COVID-19 and we continue to trend in the wrong direction. The last few days have been difficult in Ontario politics. We learned that vaccinations were paused over the holidays as we continue to lag in administering our current supply, the Minister of Long-Term Care chose to direct blame for failures in her file to the people of this province, and our fin...ance minister left the country for an extended vacation in St. Barts, as most of us stayed home and apart from our loved ones and many continue to struggle with the economic implications of this pandemic and the lockdown without adequate support. Regardless of preferred party, the current government is letting us all down. Our rates continue to rise and policies continue to fail to address the crisis we're living through, and our elected representatives flout the rules they've set for us, neglect their responsibilities, and point fingers elsewhere. Lives and livelihoods depend on this government's success, but they're failing. We deserve better. With the problems at policy level, the burden falls more heavily to us to do our part to protect ourselves and each other. Please take every step you can. Stay home unless essential, don't go in homes you don't live in, practice physical distancing, wear a mask, and continue washing your hands at least eight times a day for at least 20 seconds. Parties and vacations can wait, and will be all the better when they're safe again, and everyone is still here to enjoy them. Stay well, all. #onpoli #Covid19Ontario #COVID19 #CovidVaccine
