Extendicare Vista Park Lodge 22.11.2020

Hello Families and Friends, We have just received confirmation that the construction for our winter visiting station will begin on Monday October 19th. During construction, outdoor visits will be canceled. In lieu of outdoor visits we will be offering virtual visits to family members. Once construction is completed a communication will go out to family members about the new visiting station and the booking process. If you’d like to set up a virtual appointment with your lov...ed one please contact me at [email protected] or 204-257-6688. As well today Shared Health has increased the Pandemic Level in all PCH’s to RED. We will continue with 1 essential visitor per day. PPE is mandatory for ALL visitors. If visitors do not follow the rules, they will be asked leave. Please let me know you have any questions. Thank you. Caitlin Liewicki

November 26, 2020 TO ALL FAMILIES, CARE GIVERS AND RESIDENTS, As many of you are aware, there continues to be a steady increase in new and active cases within Winnipeg and surrounding areas. To date, we have tested 21 staff and 56 residents. All the results have been negative.... Public Health has declared Winnipeg a Pandemic Level Red to be reviewed December 12, 2020. This is to protect the health and safety of people across Manitoba. We will continue to pause indoor visits. Exceptions will made on a case-by-case basis for Residents receiving end-of-life/palliative/ compassionate care. Virtual visits will remain in place and you may schedule them by contacting Caitlin Liewicki [email protected] or the Recreation Department. We do not take this decision lightly. It is supported by our Medical Director who has praised us for keeping our home safe, clean and Covid -19 free. The less traffic in our building, the less risk there is for our residents. We have purchased the Clorox Total 360 System Electrostatic Sprayer. We have been using it in all our public areas and resident rooms as necessary to disinfect all surfaces. We will review the pause on visits on December 4th and communicate any changes. If you have concerns, please speak or e-mail Kim McColl at [email protected] or Ron Parent at [email protected]. Hello Families and Friends, Welcome to Fall! Unfortunately, to match the fall colors, the city and outlying rural municipalities have switched to Pandemic Response System Level Orange (Restricted). We need to take all necessary steps to prevent the spread of Covid-19 in the province. This change effects visitation in our home. During the next 4 weeks while we are in Level Orange, we can only allow 1 essential visitor in the facility per day. Please discuss with your family ...member who is going to visit and when. If you both come on the same day; we will have to turn someone away. There will be no other type of indoor visits at this time. Unnecessary appointments should be rescheduled. If a resident does need to attend an appointment, they should return to the facility immediately after the appointment. Any resident that leaves the facility will be swabbed for Covid-19 and isolated until we receive the results. We also take their temperatures for 14 days after they have been out of the home. As you can see with the new restrictions there is a lot of new information. Communication is key to keeping the staff informed and I need to ensure everyone gets the same message for us to keep the residents and ourselves safe. To do this we have regular townhall meetings. They usually occur bi-weekly but some months they were happening weekly. To do this the staff are off the Units to attend the meetings. This past Friday we had a meeting to discuss the Level Orange restrictions and changes. What was disappointing and very stressful for the staff was that several family members were giving the staff grief for not having their family member up and ready when they wanted. This is a Respectful Workplace. Disrespectful behavior will not be tolerated. If you have a concern or issue, please fill out the comment card at the screener’s table and I will deal with it. FALL/WINTER VISITING SPACE: Construction will begin soon on the front of the building to create a vestibule entry into the Atrium for fall/winter visits. Please note that during this construction there will be no outdoor visits or non-essential visitor visits. They hope to have this work done by December 1/20. When the room is complete; we will be able to accommodate 1 resident at a time with up to 2 visitors. FLU SEASON: We are getting prepared for Flu season. Our vaccine has been ordered and we hope to start administering the vaccine to the residents by the end of October. We will be contacting POA’s by phone and will need the consent forms signed in the next 2 - 3 weeks. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19, we will not be able to offer flu shots to family members.

Thank you to everyone who has supported our decisions throughout the Pandemic Outbreak. The number of cases keep rising as well as the number of Personal Care Homes that are in a Covid-19 outbreak. Effective Monday, November 16/20 we will pause all visits. Exceptions will be made for Residents receiving end of life care. Virtual visits will remain in place and you may schedule them by contacting Caitlin Liewicki at (204) 257-6688 or [email protected].... If you have any questions, feel free to contact me or Ron Parent [email protected]. Thanks, Kim McColl [email protected]
