Good day everyone! Here’s an exercise you can do at home or at the gym! This exercise is called band assisted squats, and it can be used as a warm up or a compound set which can be implemented in your workout routine. The main purpose of having the bands to assist your squats is to focus on getting those hip hinge muscles activated as you initiate the squat movement without having to worry about balancing. As a warm up exercise, you would perform 2-4 sets of 12-15 repetitions... just to get the blood flow to your lower body as well as increasing your heart rate. This exercise would also be perfect after heavy deadlifts or squats as performing high repetitions of this body weight exercise can help produce more of a lactate acid burn to help gain muscle mass. Let me know how this exercise worked for you! If you find this exercise helpful, check out my website for online coaching at the link in my bio and follow me on social media! Good day everyone! I want to highlight a systematic review I recently read on plyometric training. The goal of this review was to evaluate the safety and efficacy of plyometric training among older adults due to age-related health factors. Plyometric exercise involves using your muscles to contract at its maximum force to produce a movement. ... The systematic review of 18 papers showed that the plyometric training intervention in senior populations lasts from 4 weeks to 12 months. The average age of the participants in the studies was 58.4 to 79.4 years. The plyometric training consisted of various types of jumping, bounding and hopping, with unilateral and bilateral movements. The results indicated improvements in jump performance, physical performance, body composition and postural stability in the participants. I find this review very helpful for me as a fitness trainer as it allows me to keep my clients engaged because conventional weight training can become not engaging for trained clients! The study concluded that plyometric training is a safe and effective way of improving your fitness and quality of life besides conventional weight training and Olympic weightlifting. I am currently in the process of developing online coaching applications for those that want to train from the comfort of their own homes! Good day everyone! I have recently been going outside more often to get my physical activity in! Since quarantine started, I have been trying really hard to keep myself engaged with physical activity without that gym environment. I would like to share one of my favourite core exercises with a resistance band. This exercise is called the resistance band woodchop exercise and the muscles primarily activated are the obliques, which are the primary muscles for trunk rotation. T...his exercise is simple to perform but can be difficult to master because you need to keep your core stable without losing your balance. To start this exercise, grab the resistance band handle and hold the handle at shoulder height or a bit lower. Ensure that your stance is widened to maintain stability and keep your core engaged throughout the exercise. You want to rotate your body about 90 degrees away from your starting position while keeping your arms in hold of the handle while moving along with the body. If you find this exercise helpful, check out my website at the link in my bio and follow me on social media! Good day everyone! I want to share my thoughts and experience about motivation during the COVID-19 pandemic. It has been hard to be motivated to get physical activity in while staying safe and indoors. ... Being quarantined for almost half a year now has affected my motivation towards physical fitness. Back then, I would look at working out at the gym as getting my physical activity in but with most gyms still being closed or with limited capacity there haven't been many opportunities to get my physical activity in. I have been looking at this quarantine from a different perspective now. My motivation is coming from within and trying to improve myself everyday without the atmosphere and environment from the gym. This self-motivation has made me have more self-accountability while pacing myself properly so I don’t over train for the following day. I have been doing mostly body weight exercises while training outside to get some sunlight! I am currently developing an online coaching program for my clients to stay in touch with me while working out and achieving their fitness goals from the comfort of their own home. Good day everyone! When I first started working out at the gym, I was definitely not the biggest fan of cardio!Looking back at my past self, I find it embarrassing that I did not take cardio more seriously. I was doing a disservice to my body by not doing any cardio whatsoever. My opinion on cardio started to change when I took an exercise physiology class during my undergrad. I found out that doing cardio would have amazing long term benefits, such as improving my heart and... lung condition. In my more recent years of weight training and personal training, I am constantly advocating for my clients to start on cardio.
