This is why it is so important for Indigenous people to tell our own stories.

I want to take a moment to make one thing clear: THE RCMP DID NOT STAND BY AND DO NOTHING. The police forcibly removed me and said that I had to leave and le...t them take my lobster. They booted the door and grabbed me by the arms and told me to get out, told Jason Marr to the Current’s Matt Galloway, after describing how he saw the non-indigenous* fishermen vandalize and pee on his car, while the police stood by and not one RCMP even tried to stop them. Kukuwes reported that the RCMP had told Marr that the non-Indigenous fishermen would let them leave the pound if they hand over the lobster. During Marr’s phone interview with Ku’ku’kwes News, an RCMP officer can be heard in the background shouting several times at Marr to open the door. The officer can be heard telling Marr that the owner of this property does not want you folks here. We’re removing you from the property.** THE RCMP NEGOTIATED ON BEHALF OF TERRORISTS, AND CRIMINALIZED THE 2 MIKMAW MEN THAT WERE SURROUNDED BY A MOB THROWING ROCKS AT THEM AND THREATENING TO SET THEM AND THE BUILDING ON FIRE. After the RCMP forcibly removed Jason and one other Mi’kmaw fisher who had barricaded themselves in a building, surrounded by an angry mob of 200 non-indigenous fishermen, the angry mob proceeded to trash the building and an adjacent building, dumping and stealing thousands of pounds of lobster from both Mi’kmaq and non-indigenous fishermen’s catch, pouring chemicals on live lobsters. This was 2 week’s worth of Marr’s catch, estimated at thousands of dollars. THE RCMP AIDED AND ABETTED TERRORISTS, HELPING THEM ACHIEVE THEIR GOALS. * It should be noted that this group appears to be 100% white, and that the Delap's Cove Black Indian Pioneer Society, fully supports the Mi’kmaq fishers, both symbolically and materially. ** It should be noted that the building owner has been identified as an ally of the Mi’kmaq, who was actually in negotiations to sell this building to the Mi’kmaq. For weeks Mi’kmaq have been pursuing a "moderate livelihood fishery" while facing harassment and intimidation. Hannah Martin looks at the roots of the conflict and makes an argument for a renewed treaty relationship. https://yellowheadinstitute.org//peace-friendship-fishing/

This is an act of colonial violence. This is violence directed toward Algonquin people, our territory and the animals within that territory. If you commit an act of violence to the land, to the water or to the animals, you are committing violence toward us. This is all because we want to ensure that the next generations are able to have a relationship with these animals and our territories. ... I will never understand how someone’s heart can be so full of hate.

As Anishinaabeg, we know that our actions now will affect the lives of our future generations. To me, it’s only common sense that [Quebec] take drastic measures now, rather than later. That’ll affect seven, 12, 15 generations down the line if we don’t do something now with the [moose] population, he said. https://www.newspaper.indianlife.org//algonquin-/1679.html

Moose populations are rapidly declining. After repeated requests to implement a moratorium were ignored by the Quebec government, Algonquins of Barrière Lake are taking a stand to protect the moose. https://rabble.ca//2020/10/why-algonquins-protest-protect-

"A white supremacist mob raided a Mi'kmaw lobster facility, trashed the catch & lit a vehicle ablaze while police watched. No arrests. Meanwhile Black, Indigeno...us, and people of colour are shot on the spot during wellness checks. This is Canada in 2020. Solidarity with #Mikmaw." - tweet by Atiya Jaffar https://twitter.com/atiyeahthou/status/1316611633708371968 WAYS TO SUPPORT MI’KMAQ TREATY RIGHTS AND LIVELIHOOD FISHERIES: https://drive.google.com//1u_LF_bCFBbSijzqJgHNh4-Mfp/view
