The AHS Screen Test Mobile Mammography Clinic will be returning to Wainwright January 21-February 2, 2021. Screen Test brings breast cancer screening to women across Alberta with its state-of-the-art mobile mammography unit. What: AHS Screen Test Mobile Mammography Clinic How to book: Call 1-800-667-0604 (toll-free) Cost: None... Who should be screened? Women 50 to 74: this group is most commonly diagnosed with breast cancer, and should plan to have a mammogram every 2 years until they turn 75. This group can self-refer. Women 40 to 49: screening is optional and they should discuss the risks and benefits of screening with their health care provider. A referral is needed for their first mammogram in Alberta, which are available online here. Women 75 and over can continue screening and should discuss the risks and benefits with their health care provider. Screening mammograms are not recommended for women under age 40. Women in this age group should discuss their breast cancer risk and mammography options with their health care provider. Why are mammograms important? Screening mammograms are routine tests used to find early signs of cancer in women who have no breast problems or symptoms. They can find changes in the breast that are too small to be felt by a woman or her doctor. Early detection with mammograms is one of the reasons that most women (90%) are now surviving breast cancer. To learn more about Screen Test, visit our website or call us at 1-800-667-0604.

"I work within the lab & we receive a lot of phone calls in a day regarding our appointment line. We are just trying really hard to get the word out for patient...s to get this phone number as well the website to book. Especially with school being back & flu season around the corner along with our everyday COVID, we are trying to reduce the amount of patients in our waiting rooms. We would greatly appreciate it." ~ Wainwright Hospital. See more

Notice: As of April 17, 2020, the Emergency Department of the Hardisty Health Centre will be temporarily closed
Given the increasing spread of COVID-19 in our province, Alberta Health and AHS have made the difficult decision to enhance visiting restrictions in hospitals, ...Long-term care, Supportive Living, Congregate Living and Hospice Care. Effective immediately, no visitors will be permitted in these facilities. Exceptions will be made for visitors attending to a resident who is dying, as well as maternity and pediatric patients. Sites may in rare situations make an exception and allow one essential visitor in a continuing care or hospital setting where the resident’s or patient’s care needs cannot be met without their assistance. An essential visitor, designated by the resident, patient or guardian (or other alternate decision maker), may be a family member, friend or paid caregiver over 18 years of age. Visitors who are permitted under these exceptions must be verified and undergo a health screening prior to entering the facility. This may include a temperature check or a questionnaire. They will be escorted by staff to their family member’s room and must remain there. We know this will be difficult for Albertans, and our hearts are with you. Taking these measures will help keep our most vulnerable safe from illness. We encourage you to look for other ways to reach out to your loved ones. Even spending just a few minutes on the phone with them can go a long way toward reducing feelings of loneliness and isolation.
As you may know all our physicians also work emergency shifts at the hospital. We are preparing the best we can to prevent our health care system from being ove...rwhelmed in the coming weeks. Our community has been great at limiting hospital visits to emergencies only during this time. Thank you! Please continue strict social distancing and continue to call 811 or set up an in-person or virtual appointment with your doctor if you are uncertain about coming to the hospital. Every patient that comes in with the slightest cough requires several staff to use up some of our precious stock of personal protective equipment like masks and gowns. Many countries have had shortages resulting in staff getting ill. Please help us to be able to help you when the time comes! See more
We've decided to start a Facebook page to help distribute timely information to our patients during this pandemic. Collectively, our clinic serves over 6000 reg...istered patients in Wainwright and its surrounding area. We encourage our patients to like this page to ensure that our updates will reach you. We are pleased to announce that Alberta Health has approved funding for virtual appointments with your family doctor during this pandemic. In-person appointments are still encouraged for encounters requiring a physical examination and currently we have strict protocols in place to minimize risk to you and our staff. We do not currently offer COVID-19 testing at our clinic and would like to remind patients who suspect they may have the disease to call 811 or their family doctor for advice, or 911 if an emergency exists. Although these virtual appointments will initially be via telephone only, we are actively working towards video calling solutions to better serve our patients. If you would like to book either a regular in-person appointment or a virtual appointment with your physician, please call the clinic at 780 842 3341.
We stay at work for you, please stay at home for us! #YourEMS reminds you to help #flattenthecurve: #stayathome and keep a #socialdistance if around others, 2m or 6 feet. #COVID19AB
Effective immediately, hospitals will allow only one visitor at a time in order to help protect our patients and prevent the spread of COVID-19. Additionally, ...children will not be allowed to visit. We know this is difficult, but we have taken this step because children may not show symptoms of COVID-19, and could potentially pose a risk to the health of patients and staff. Exceptions to this child restriction will be considered, but will need to be reviewed by a unit manager or nursing staff on case-by-case basis. And as before, individuals who are ill are not permitted to visit a patient in any AHS facility. You must be feeling well when you visit, in order to protect the health of our patients. If you are feeling unwell, have a compromised immune system, are in self-isolation for COVID-19, or are being tested for COVID-19, you will not be able to visit. Thank you for your understanding. This was a difficult decision, but we made it in the best interest of protecting the health of our patients.
This is the AHS page to access all current information regarding COVID-19
AHS is postponing all scheduled and elective surgeries, effective Wednesday March 18, as part of our COVID-19 response. Urgent and emergency surgery, as well as... oncology and scheduled caesarean procedures, will continue. AHS will be contacting Albertans scheduled for procedures and will reschedule as soon as possible. We do not have a timeline for this due to the ongoing pandemic. Please do not call Health Link 811 to ask about scheduled surgeries/procedures. AHS will be in touch with you as soon as possible. We acknowledge this will have an impact on those waiting for elective or non-urgent procedures. It is necessary, to ensure the healthcare system can sustain its pandemic response and respond to emergencies. We must ensure we have the staff, equipment and beds available for increased demand caused by COVID-19. See more

The most important measure that Albertans can take to prevent COVID-19 is to continue practising good hygiene. COVID-19 is not an airborne illness and is believ...ed to be spread by droplet, mainly by coughing, sneezing or direct contact with someone who is sick with COVID-19 or with surfaces they have recently touched. The steps you can take to protect yourself and your family are the same as those with any common respiratory virus. For more information please visit alberta.ca/COVID19.
