Thirty-four cases were reported on Saturday October 10th, 24 on Sunday October 11th, 48 on October 12th Thanksgiving Monday, and another 34 today. Public health is continuing its investigations to determine which cases are linked to the large gatherings identified last week and if there are cases of new transmissions within the communities. Today, the Government of Saskatchewan announced annual funding of $7.8 million to Saskatchewan Polytechnic for skills training programs. The funding allows the institution to deliver a variety of education and skills training programs including Adult 12, Adult Basic Education (ABE), and Essential Skills for the Workplace (ESWP). ABE and ESWP programs provide adult learners with basic employment skills and workplace experience that leads to either further training or attachment to the labour market. Today, the Government Saskatchewan announced Women Shifting Gears, a new pilot program for women who want training to become transport drivers. The program is a partnership between the Saskatoon YWCA, the Saskatchewan Trucking Association (STA) and the Saskatchewan Ministry of Immigration and Career Training. Transport truck drivers are an in-demand occupation in Saskatchewan, and an added bonus to this program is that it will help diversify our labour force, Immigration and Career Training Minister Jeremy Harrison said. Three passing lanes recently opened near Kindersley, while work continues on five more. Released on September 15, 2020 Thousands of patients in Northern and Central Saskatchewan now have improved access to magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) services. Mayfair Diagnostics began delivering community-based MRI services in mid-August and will provide a minimum of 4,500 exams per year in Saskatoon. On September 10, 2020, the North Battleford Gang Task Force/Street Enforcement Team, along with members of the North Battleford Detachment, and North Battleford Provincial General Investigations Section, executed a search warrant at a residence on the 1300 block 96th Street in North Battleford. The search warrant was the result of a drug trafficking investigation which started earlier in the month. During the search, police found 276 grams of cocaine, 1 kg of illicit marihuana, 4 grams of MDMA as well as quantities of other unidentified substances also believed to be illicit drugs. Effective September 1, 2020, the boundaries for four of Horizon School Divisions 14 Subdivisions have been adjusted to better match attendance area boundaries for schools. Horizons Board of Education spent time reviewing these boundaries and making suggestions for adjustments, and the Ministry of Education has approved the submitted changes. Saskatchewan People Experiencing Addictions Will Have Improved Access Through Specialized Treatment The Government of Saskatchewan has committed $1.55 million in the 2020-21 budget and $1.95 million annualized to establish a new provincial addictions treatment centre at St. Josephs Hospital in Estevan. This funding will support 30 new addictions treatment beds: 15 beds dedicated to people recovering from crystal meth addiction; five beds for people seeking treatment for other addictions; four pre-treatment and six post-treatment beds. Saskatchewan continues to maintain its high credit rating following the affirmation by Moodys Investors Service of its Aaa rating for the province. Moodys has affirmed Saskatchewans triple-A credit rating despite the significant fiscal and economic challenges posed by the global COVID-19 pandemic, Finance Minister Donna Harpauer said. This funding is from the over $150 million in the COVID contingency fund for education from provincial, federal and school division savings.
