The Wallaceburg & District Museum has not yet set at date to re-open. We are working to ensure we provide a safe environment and hope to announce a date soon. We are sorry for any inconvenience. We look forward to seeing our members and serving the community again.
For those who purchased tickets for the Money Tree and/or Quilt Draws at the museum: Although WAMBO may not be held this year, we will move forward with these draws at a later date to be determined after the museum reopens. Thank you for your understanding.
FYI, during this time the Wallaceburg Museum will not be actively posting our regular features on our social media accounts. In the future we look forward to announcing when we will open again. Please stay safe.
After 1925 Wallaceburg became the main tableware division for Dominion Glass and produced a variety of patterns for the Canadian market. Light pastel colours were especially popular.
Trivia Answer: Hiawatha and Saguenay are the names of popular patterns of tableware made at the Wallaceburg glass factory beginning in 1945. They were produced in several colours, as referenced in the photo.
Trivia Tuesday: Does anyone know what the terms Hiawatha and Saguenay mean in relation to glass making?
Due to the COVID-19 virus, the Wallaceburg Museum will be temporarily closed until further notice. Unfortunately we will not open April 7th as we hoped. All events and activities are cancelled.
Fun Fact Friday: Many of the beautiful pieces in our glass paperweight collection were donated by Lillian Gordon. These are only a few, see the full collection at the Wallaceburg Museum!
Trivia Answer: Cullets were created from molten glass that solidified in the factory furnaces and was chipped out during the cleaning process. They soon became popular decorations in gardens around Wallaceburg.
In the glass-making process, what is a cullet?
Fun Fact Friday: Did you know Captain James Steinhoff was D.A. Gordon’s uncle? The two partnered to create the Steinhoff & Gordon Stave Mill in 1887 (pictured c. 1890).
