S.S. Walnut 17.11.2020

I am preparing new material for the Walnut webpage - a memoire from Tom McCabe who served on the ship during WWII. He writes about a small space aboard the ship. I'm wondering...does anyone know... might this be where some of the passengers were hidden when the ship first departed from Sweden? "I was shown the entrance to the chain locker by Punch Caddy, our senior leading seaman and a veteran from the 1914-18 War. The entrance was in the seamens’ mess and consisted of an elliptical plate held by nuts and bolts and it led to a small hold in the forward bowels of the ship. I’ll never get through that small hatch I said. You will replied Punch Caddy. Blokes twice your size have got through just put your hands and arms above your head and let yourself go slowly down the ladder. Thoughts?

The Walnut website has undergone a major overhaul. Drop down menus have been added. The site is now responsive on all technologies used to access it. If you have any suggestions for improvements - or if you have more materials to add, please contact me @ [email protected] www.walnutship1948.ca
