I have to be honest with you all. I am a dedicated LGTBQ+ ally, but I've done a terrible job at representing LGTBQ+ folks in my social media and web presence. This has absolutely not been an intentional thing, I promise. The truth of the matter is that I am simply not hired by LGTBQ+ couples very often. I suspect this happens because these couples and families are not sure if they are safe with me, or perhaps they feel more comfortable working with photographers who are mor...e outspoken about their allyship. Whatever the reason, one of my resolutions (goals?) for 2021 is to boldly represent Kootenay LGTBQ+ couples and families in my social media feeds. To show them that their love is beautiful & worthy of sharing. Representation matters. It is something that I feel so strongly about, and it pains me to admit that I have fallen woefully short in this area. Until now I have allowed the excuse of "How can I feature LGTBQ+ families and couples in my feed if they never hire me?" to justify this oversight. But no more! So, over the coming year I will be issuing a few model calls for LGTBQ+ identifying families and couples. I hope to meet new people, work with new people, and with their help-- create a new narrative on my social media. But I want to go beyond just offering free sessions... Because, quite frankly, the odd free session is simply not enough. I also want to pay these model families and couples. I want to reimburse them for their time and their generosity in getting in front of my camera and sharing their love. So not only will I be offering "model calls", but these model couples and families can expect to be reimbursed properly for their time. Please keep an eye on this space over the coming months as my plans come together, and I make my first model call out to the amazing, local LGTBQ+ community

It was such a treat to meet Jordan and Shyelle up at Nancy Greene Lake bright and early this morning. Dreamy morning fog was still hovering over the frozen lake, making everything feel a wee bit magical. I am so excited for these two to hold their sweet baby boy in their arms next month.

I will never take for granted the clients who return to me for every major milestone in their lives-- weddings, pregnancies, births. Because trusted to capture these most precious moments again and again is truly one of the best joys of my life. Welcome to the outside world, Little Wilder <3
