My detailed response to the recurrent question: If elected, how would reconcile spending and revenues by the City? My policy imperatives were also highlighted in today's Toronto Star, https://www.thestar.com//ward-4-candidate-gord-perks-not-t To provide sustainable, high quality municipal services (from police and fire services to transportation and transit services to waste management to social services to housing to our cherised arts and culture) for all Torontonians, i...t will critical for the new City Council to develop a multi-year Municipal Finance Plan that may include but is not limited to: 1) revenue generation (includes property tax strategy, user fee pricing strategy, broadening the tax base, improved revenue performance by Toronto Hydro Corporation and Toronto Parking Authority), 2) better value for money (includes back office transformation, workforce optimization, modernization of how city does business), 3) state-of-good-repair investments and business development (includes capital and infrastructure investments, public-private partnerships, new business development, small business programs - this MUST include sustainable development, go to www.valeriegrdisa.com for my policy position), 4) inter-governmental collaboration and investment (includes predictable provincial and federal transfer payments to partner on transit, housing, homelessness, climate change and other shared priorities), and 5) results-based budgeting and expenditure management focused on evaluating the effectiveness, efficiency and relevancy of the City’s municipal services. As the Councillor for Ward 4, I will bring 30 years of experience in public, private and not-for-profit sectors and in government to City Hall and work collaboratively with the Mayor, my Council colleagues, and the Ward 4 residents and businesses to ensure we collectively make more strategic, integrated decisions on a multi-year timeframe to ensure Ward 4 and Toronto remains the best place in the world to live! The countdown to Monday, October 22nd is 2 days away - every day the momentum keeps shifting towards my Candidacy for Councillor and I am so delighted that countless residents have sent me e-mails, called me directly, engaged in live chats on my website, met with me individually or as a group, shared their Vote Compass results (please take the survey!), requested lawn signs, approached me after every debate with genuine feedback and/or provided a donation! With more than 10...8,000 residents in Ward 4, I wish I could have met each and every one of you - for those I did meet during the campaign - thank you for your passion, commitment to our great ward, challenging questions, innovative ideas and unwavering dedication, advocacy and volunteerism to making your communities a better place to live - I do hope to meet thousands more residents and local business partners over the next four years! There were four debates in 8 days and it was such a privilege to demonstrate my deep policy experience but more importantly my deep understanding of the priority issues that mean so much to Ward 4 residents! I have been so thrilled with the print media and social media feedback about the debates including this tweet by Nicole Fowler (@nf_interactive) following the 4th debate hosted by Parkdale Residents Association, "Keep an eye on @valerieGrdisa Toronto, she was a lead voice for #ward4 tonight. Deep experience & action-oriented, a standout." With the diverse and complex issues we face together, I promise to bring principled and professional leadership to City Hall. Five generations of my family have lived in Ward 4 starting with my great grandfather who immigrated to Canada in 1912 - I am the right voice at the right time to represent the best ward in the best city in the world! Finally, I believe that Ward 4 residents would be better served by a City Councillor that lives in Ward 4 and Gord Perks nor David Ginsberg live in Ward 4.
