Earlier this month we named our Employee of the Year. Everyone on our team was asked to nominate an individual who they felt went above and beyond their call of duty, made work an enjoyable place to be for others, and represents our Warldaw Core Values of Safety, Professionalism, Accountability, Honesty and Integrity, Knowledge and Community. In a year where many people went above any beyond, we had a variety of nominations. This is a great representation of how well thought ...of our team is by their peers. After all nominations were in, one individual did receive the most nominations. Kelly, Greg and Derek could not have agreed with the consensus more. This year’s recipient leads by example and is always willing to do what it takes to help their team. They represent our core values everyday through their actions and work ethic. We are happy to congratulate Lois Calam! Lois is so dedicated to our team that we had to be sneaky and fib to her about Employee of the Year, because she wanted to ensure everything was ready for us to give the recognition. I’m sure Lois looks back fondly on the period when she worked 3 days a week. That has not been a reality for a couple years now. At the start of 2020, we were just starting to get a handle on our new CRM and accounting software. Because Lois was the driving force behind the implementation and improvement of this software, she continued to work daily while on her vacation in Florida. She did this to help our team and ensure we had proper figures for reporting. When COVID-19 hit, Lois buckled down with us to navigate the uncertain times. She took lead in researching and applying for government programs like CERB and other available funding. She remained level headed when helping us to create policies, make decisions that were best for our team and the community and helped to ensure we were positioned to come back in a position to be safe and financially astute. Lois demonstrates a tireless work ethic and attention to detail with every task she takes on. Weather helping her team work through their challenges, dissecting an accounting issue, or offering endless support to the fellow management team, Lois treats everyone with respect & integrity. No matter how busy Lois is, she will always take the time to listen and support her peers, both professionally and personally. Even if an individual on our team were to have not to interaction with Lois directly, they still have immensely benefitted from having her on our team. Thank you, Lois! Your continued dedication and support is appreciated more than we can ever show. We are so fortunate to have you as part of the Wardlaw family.

Today marks the final day of our Food Drive, benefiting Harvest Algoma. We thank all of our customers who generously donated. A special thank you goes to Tasha, who brought in over 220 nonperishable items today! Tasha received a $1 discount for every item she brought in. At our annual Christmas party, we recognize milestones of 10, 20 and 30-years of dedication to the Wardlaw team. This year, although we couldn't have our formal Christmas party, we still celebrated our achievements through the year and recognized our team. This year we had the privilege to honour Nancy Hill for her 20-years with Wardlaw. Nancy started with Wardlaw October 2000. She was working for Richard Brown, when he decided to retire. We purchased Richard's inventory & we...re fortunate to hire Nancy through the transition as well. Nancy started in a data entry role and spent time dispatching in our service department. With her transition to our inventory and parts department, Nancy was really able to prove how vast her knowledge of our industry is. We are confident Nancy knows more about HVAC than almost any individual working in an office, and many working in the field as well! We struggled to create a proper title for Nancy as she does so much more than purchase parts. Nancy deals with not only purchasing, but inventory management, warranty tracking and returns and still assists in quoting and dispatch. This year Nancy has had to work harder than ever to bring in the products we needed. In the spring, she was on-call at home to purchase and order all equipment or parts that we needed for emergency work. We would not have seen the success we did without her dedication. We thank Nancy for being so dedicated to our company and her fellow teammates. Nancy brings her hardworking attitude to our team and it is always accompanied by her infectious smile and laughter. We have enjoyed 20 years of sharing our lives with Nancy and her family. We have been privileged to watch her family grow from three young daughters, to now seeing her grandchildren bring even more joy to her life. We thank you, Nancy, for your continued dedication to your job, our company and the whole Wardlaw team. Welcome to the 20 Year Club.

PUC Services Inc. is warning customers of a phone scam that has recently surfaced in Sault Ste. Marie and Area. Callers claiming to be from the Provincial G...overnment are seeking information from households regarding their qualification for energy rebates. PUC is advising if you receive a call from someone asking questions of this nature, do not provide any information or book an appointment, and hang up immediately. Provincial programs like Save on Energy do not call consumers and ask to schedule a home audit. Instead, interested consumers have to sign up or fill out a contact form before receiving a call back from the program service provider. Customers should report these fraudulent calls to the Canadian Anti-Fraud Centre at 1-888-495-8501.

Fraud Alert: We received notice today that some customers are receiving calls from disreputable individuals. These individuals have stated that they must enter the home for free maintenance on their hot water heater. The individuals did not state which company they represent and the phone number did not accept incoming calls. Fraud Alert: Have you received calls from At Home Energy to look at your bills? If you do- Say No! We are proud to partner with At Home Energy to offer rental water heaters and boilers in our area. They have access to all of your billing and should never be calling to visit the home for this. What do we do during a pandemic when equipment is in short supply? Whatever it takes! Big thank you to Campeau Heating out of Sudbury for their teamwork. Yesterday Greg and Art drove down to pick up some Napoleon equipment we purchased out of Campeau's stock. The Campeau team has also purchased different equipment out of Wardlaw's inventory. This collaboration is helping to ensure Northern Ontario is supplied with top quality, HVAC equipment manufactured right here in Ontario. No fear; more equipment is on the way to both warehouses!

We’ve missed seeing each other smile while we take a coffee break (or mental health break). Our office has of course been limiting face to face meetings of any kind and masks are mandatory. We decided to order in The Breakfast Pig and have a physically distant office gathering for the first time since March. We may have to be creative and wear our masks until we are settled, but we are making the most of it! We are happy to have our team working and embracing our new world.

Hey! There is Nancy, our Inventory Coordinator, working hard as ever. Nancy is presently working from home during the Pandemic. That has not stopped her from helping others. She is using this time to help with the project of making SAH Masks through "The Sewing Room @ Zion". That sewing group is focused on SAH masks and scrub hats, masks for ARCH, and for the Finnish Rest Home. Others in the community are also helping out with this project. During normal times, "The Sewing Ro...om @ Zion" (ecumenical - all faiths) meet in the basement of Zion Lutheran Church on Friday morning from 9:30 to noon doing outreach projects. Some of their past work involved making cloth eye glass cases to support the work of a retired optometrist going to Africa from Bethel Bible Chapel, bags to help with the 'Period Purse' project in SSM, pillow case dresses and pants for the Canadian Lutheran World Relief destined for Africa and South America, chemo hats for the local Oncology Unit (some in partnership with Emmanual United Church), and most recently little girl's dresses that were being taken to a girl's orphanage in the Dominican Republic by a group from The Summit going on a build project. Unfortunately those plans were also stopped due to the Pandemic. We are seeing many community members and organizations stepping up to help during the pandemic. We are proud to have Nancy on our team. Keep up the amazing work!

As we continue to monitor the unforeseen situation that is present with COVID-19 and associated illnesses, Wardlaw Heating & Cooling Inc (Wardlaw) has made some tough decisions to ensure a safe and healthy environment for all team members, customers, vendors and our community at large. Wardlaw wishes to assure the community that we will continue to keep you all safe with heat and hot water during the uncertainty of COVID-19. Wardlaw has suspended all non-emergency services, i...ncluding maintenance and installations. Wardlaw Team Wardlaw has implemented an extensive COVID-19 Policy accompanied by Wardlaw COVID-19 Temporary Risk Management Procedures. We have implemented extensive sanitization and cleaning protocols in our office, warehouses, fleet vehicles and offsite work locations. We have equipped field staff with necessary equipment to ensure safe working procedures in homes and businesses of our customers. Our office will remain closed until further notice and our team can be reached by phone or email. The policy and procedures set in place are for the wellbeing of our community and will be constantly monitored and adjusted. Wardlaw’s Plan No employees will be working while showing symptoms of COVID-19, and will not return until medically cleared. Prior to each emergency visit, customers will be asked screening questions. At this time, we will also describe the increased sanitary measures that include mandatory physical distancing of customers and the Wardlaw team. Every effort will be made to schedule maintenance, services and installations as soon as it is safe to do so. Customers who are affected by COVID-19 and have no heat will be offered contactless delivery of temporary heaters until they have been symptom free for 48 hours. We are offering payment deferrals on all work over $1000.00 for any unexpected repairs. We ask all customers to respect the health and safety of our team and community. Should you be experiencing any symptoms, please notify the dispatcher immediately so proper precautions can be taken.
