This assessment can help Kristin and Meryl cater the program to ensure each student is getting accurate information and movement. Having an assessment done with Meryl is recommended, Meryl has 25 years experience working as a physiotherapist. Students can feel safe and cared for under Meryls @eramosaphysiotherapy guidance and expertise. The sessions weekly with Kristin build on different breathing techniques and movements focusing on total body strength and the rebuild and restore of your pelvic floor and core. Kasia is one of my best friends and has been since we met in our Yoga teacher training. Her grace and steadfastness has kept me sane over the years Kasia has been an Esthetician for over 20 years, specializing in skin care treatments. She is the owner of Elements Spa @elementsspa(currently closed), her home based esthetics spa for 1...0 years. Kasia loves educating her clients on skin care and how to take care of themselves on the daily. I’ve asked Kasia to join us and talk about overall skin health! What is pelvic health? Ever hear the term pelvic health and wonder, what does that even mean? Pelvic health can mean a variety of things and will be very specific to the individual.... It Usually means everything below the belly button! I hear it all the time oh I do my kegels whenever the pelvic floor comes up. This is fine if one knows how to practice kegels and if they are helping.... or are they potentially causing more harm. It’s hard to know without working with a professional. But your body may tell you something is up when there is a disruption in your body’s function. We look at pelvic health on a holistic level and so diet, breathing, sleep, movement patterns, stress levels amongst other things are looked at to obtain an overall view of your body on a whole. Practicing kegels is only just one small part of all the pelvic floor is a part of. You may be surprised to hear your adductor muscles (the muscles on the inside of your upper leg) are a part of your pelvic floor! The pelvic floor has many responsibilities like holding in your organs and potentially a baby. It stabilizes the pelvis and is the base to your core. If there is disruption and you feel pain or other symptoms that just don’t seem right, reach out! Infant Feeding Workshop 101 Feb 7, 2-4pm Women choose many ways to feed their babies. Breastfeeding is the number one recommended way but doesn't always come easily or instinctively to everyone. Kristin is offering this workshop to help women, no matter what their feeding goals are, to prepare and empower them to do what's best for themselves and baby. ... Learn the science behind milk production, what to expect in the first few days, latch and positioning tips, evidence-based information on building and maintaining milk supply, pumping, common nursing problems, supplementing and more. Moms are encouraged to ask questions and share in a non-judgemental inclusive environment. Struggling with back and neck pain while feeding and tending to your new baby? Think about your alignment! This contributes to pelvic floor ultimate function too! When sitting in a chair or your couch, place your feet flat on the floor. Try not to cross your legs. ... Place a rolled towel or small pillow in the small of your back to support your core Use a feeding pillow to support your little one and your elbows! You could even use regular pillows here. Think about keeping your spine long, try not to slouch. Take your chin back, giving yourself a bit of a double chin to look down at baby. Breath. Stay present. Enjoy ! Balance is something we can all use. It brings both strength and ease to daily life; just think about all the muscles involved to hold dancer pose! In less physical terms, too, balance is something we all work toward. Balance in the foods we eat and the exercise we do. Balance between me time and the time we devote to those around us. Finding balance first on the mat is the way you can ultimately cultivate balance in all areas of your life.... Here’s 3 ways to cultivate balance off your mat: 1. Slow down. Take a step back. Breath. Before everything you do, ask yourself if what your about to do fits in with where you want to be. 2. Identify your in imbalances. Where are you giving to much, where are you not giving enough. Where can you pause. 3. Find your focus. Just like on your mat, finding a fixed point can often help us to maintain balance in an otherwise challenging position. Take that off your mat into your day.... Where is your focus? Zero in on your goals and soon the pathway becomes clear. It’s not cupcakes one day and salad the next. It’s deeper then that. It’s riding the wave of chaos and stillness with minimal hiccups, it’s saying NO when you feel pressured to say yes. It’s saying YES to you It gets easier not because it’s easy, because we are stronger! Every day! You got this! A few ways to try Malasana squat! Malasana is an awesome pose to hang out in. Watch children playing as they squat down, they are often in this type of position! Supported, This squat can help to relax the pelvic floor muscles and can release lower back tension and pelvic pain. ... Unsupported this squat is very strengthening for the hips, glutes and core and can bring on the heat quite fast. Always honour your body and check with a doc before beginning an exercise plan. I get judged too... Oh, your kids don’t eat sugar so your wouldn’t know... Oh, your kids don’t watch tv so your wouldn’t understand...... Actually, they do watch TV and they do eat sugar. Do they watch tv all day every day, no. Do I limit it with boundaries, yes. Do we have days when we watch 3 movies, yes. Just because I make a point to limit the screen time, filling their days with crafts, games, nature and play, doesn’t mean they never watch TV. So if you have someone judging you because of how much tv your kid watches, guess what, they will judge you when they watch less too so.... Do you! Do my kids eat sugar every day, I aim for a no for that response. But there are weeks when they do. We try to focus on the fact that certain foods make us feel like poo so we avoid them. But here’s me enjoying a donut because life’s to short. I will enjoy it, eat it, not beat myself up afterwards. And tomorrow I most likely won’t have one. Shoulders stiff from leaning over and tending to your baby? Try this simple movement snack to open your heart and give some love to your spine and shoulders! While hanging out with baby on the floor, set yourself up in Deer pose (or 90 angle pose), where both legs are bent, one in front and one behind, your sit bones are connected to the earth.... Grab your babies receiving blanket at both ends, wide grip. Breath in and open your heart while reaching your arms up and over your body, breath out while rounding your spine and reaching back around to the front! Remember to switch sides with your legs and do it again! If you are struggling try the following position:... Place a stool under your feet to elevate your knees higher than your hips Lean forward and rest your elbows on your knees Relax you stomach Try not to hold your breathe, bear down or push Let your body do the work Take a big breath in, big breath out and relax! Other tips include: Listen to your "urge to go", don't push it off Drink plenty of water Keep active. The day got by on me yesterday so I’m bringing you a mindful tip Wednesday instead of Tuesday today! And something similar to talk about... Be soft on yourself! This holiday and always!... You really truly are doing all you can do. Presence and gratitude can really ground us into this crazy world and season. I was thinking yesterday about pressure and expectations and how we feel all of these feelings around this time of year, especially. Who puts this pressure and expectations on us? No one! We do it ourselves! For the most part. No one expects me to ship boxes to BC every year. No one pressures me to do the kids advent calendar. I enjoy it! But when it comes down to it, why stress about it when it’s something I’ve created all on my own! If it doesn’t get done, so what Lets remember the most important thing, time with the ones close to us So how can we be more mindful and less stressy? 1. Let go of any expectations you have for yourself. Do what you can. It’s enough. Try not to stay up until all hours of the night running around like a chicken with your head cut off. Whatever you get done, will be Perfect the way it is and no one else will even know the difference! 2. Be soft on yourself. Try not to beat yourself up if you indulge a little bit. If you have that extra wine. If you said no to seeing family. We are in a freaking pandemic guys!!! We are so totally enough right now! 3. Embrace it. This situation is so totally out of our control. How can we embrace this change, this difference. What are the good we see in this situation. If it’s hard to see the good, that’s ok. Cry. Scream. Whatever. Let it out. Then move on. Enjoy this time the best you can. Let’s try and see the big picture even if it’s hard. Let’s spread love. Spread light. Embrace the unknowns so we can all relax and chill the F out!! As @meryl.epa.pt says Blow before you go You would often hear me cue something similar - exhale to move. Exhale to lift. Exhale to get your power. Exhaling allows your core to release pressure so you aren’t bearing down on your pelvic floor with the weight of lifting and moving. When we exhale the pelvic floor contracts, so you also could assist it a little by adding in a small contraction and lift with your exhale as you go.... Try to bend your knees , ground down through all 4 corners of your feet and lift with control. Pause and take a breath in before exhaling and moving. Keep a hinge at your hip rather then using your lower back. This small mindful movement could save your pelvic floor!! Try it! We recommend seeing a pelvic floor physio after the birth of your baby .
