To avoid your tomato plants running amok and encourage the growth of tasty tomatoes, follow this simple four-step guide to pruning your tomato plants. If not removed, tomato suckers can draw energy from the main stems and decrease tomato growth. Three pronged tomato growths like the one seen in this photo should be avoided. First, identify your tomato sucker. The tomato sucker, or side shoots, are new growths in the junction between the stem and a branch of your tomato plan...t. Second, with your fingers locate the end of the sucker where it connects to the tomato plant. If needed, use a sharp pruner blade. Third, snap off the tomato sucker at the stem. Finished, you did it! You have now successfully taken one tomato sucker off. Continue to prune the tomato plant to encourage growth. . . . . #tomatoseedlings #growtomatoesgrow #pruningtomatoes #encouraginggrowth #growyourownfood #wastenot #soilbooster #zone5gardening
