I love that in my Job I get to see every emotion in just one lesson all the while meeting really interesting people, young and old. I love to see the transformation in confidence from both the child and the nervous parent or carer, from those fumbling first classes right to the confident swimmers and teaching assistants they become. It gives me an immense sense of pride in what I do. #loveyourteacher To read Allison’s full story click here: https://waterbabies.ca/our-teachers/allison-hull

The idea of giving your baby their first bath might seem a little daunting! Worry not! Your baby recently spent 9 months in the womb, so they already have a natural affinity with the water. Here are 3 ways to make bath time a happy time! #1 Have everything on hand ... A non-slip mat is perfect in front of the bath to avoid accidents. A soft washcloth and a snuggly towel to wrap them after are also important! #2 Warm and shallow water Keep the water about 20 to 30 cm deep and at a safe temperature between 36 and 38 degrees Celcius. No thermometer? It's always good to test with your elbow and wrist! It should feel comfortably warm, with no hot patches. #3 Bath time is bonding time! Why not share the bath with your baby? Skin-to-skin contact is the perfect way to bond! Maintain eye contact and talk lots to reassure your baby that it is a safe place to be. Singing to your little one is also great! If you’re already swimming with us, why not sing those Water Babies songs for that familiarity?

Benefit #5 Its develops baby’s motor skills Research has shown that exercising from birth helps improve babies’ balance and co-ordination. Even by the age of five, babies who swam regularly outperformed others in their ability to reach for things. And balance is vital in terms of babies’ overall brain development To inquire or to register for lessons click here: www.waterbabies.ca/lp/baby-swimming/markham

Benefit #4 Its boosts your baby’s confidence and self-esteem As babies learn how to maneuver in the water on their own, their independence and self-confidence blossoms to start enjoying being in the pool more and more. This will often then be transferred into other aspects of their life. For a toddler, the thrill of grasping a new skill in their lesson, or achieving something they have been working up to for a while, will be evident in their ear-to-ear grins but may also give them the confidence to try new things and increase their interest in learning in general.
