With a population of 3,132 at the time of the 2016 Census, Waterford, Ontario is much larger than most towns its size. It sprawls out in many directions, even e...ncompassing the Waterford Ponds way off in the distance. This aerial photo is only a small portion of this magnificent community which boasts some of the most incredible buildings and architecture found in all of Norfolk County. It's also home to the must see Waterford Heritage & Agricultural Museum, the Waterford Heritage Trail, Black Bridge with it's spectacular view, Old Town Hall, the Quilt Junction, the Waterford Antique Market, delicious restaurants including Yin's Famous Chinese Restaurant, a very unique and wonderful downtown business section and so much more. It's autumn folks and you won't find a better time to see why Waterford is so popular amongst those looking for a beautiful fall drive! Besides, the residents are so down to earth. Need help, just ask anyone of them, they're that friendly! Please share your thoughts, share this posting if you wish but always share a beautiful Waterford kind of day! NEWS UPDATE from F. Woodcock: "The trail is to be temporarily closed from 13 to 30 October 2020. Norfolk County will be testing the water well between Conc 13 and Old Hwy 24 from Oct 13 - 30.... The testing will determine if there is enough volume of water to serve Simcoe. Sometime in the future a water main may be buried under the trail which means for us a resurfacing of this section of trail. The future plan is also to move the well head to the side of the trail. Although we lease this section of trail from the Province, they are allowing the County to proceed. A new surface will benefit all of us, We only wish the well was located at Thompson Rd. Cheers, Frank" https://maps.app.goo.gl/gefsGHRUu5bfvjpd6

Some may have noticed the newly installed memorial plaque and bicycle monument installed together near the south side of Black Bridge&COOP Silos on the LE&N portion of the trail. Here is a little communique with some details from our very own, Frank Woodcock: "Pre COVID, Heather Keam and I were working on a memorial to Michele Crowley on the WHT. Heather was the original Health Unit coordinator along with Michele who kick-started Pathways for People. Heather took over the ...Haldimand version of P4P and later left to join Tamarack. Michele kept her position and along with P4P achieved Norfolk’s Bike Friendly designation, spearheaded our Active Transportation Master Plan, introduced Share the Road signage and many other P4P initiatives. Heather had 3 children, Hunter, Spencer and Fletcher. Michele was their God Mother. The 3 boys wanted to do something in memory of Michele and as a result Heather contacted me with an idea. The Keam family wanted to put a bike sculpture dedicated to Michele near the Black Bridge. I had a memorial plaque awaiting installation and we merged the 2 ideas. Now that we are at Level 3 COVID restrictions, the other day with the help of the boys we installed both the bike and the plaque. There were good feelings all around."

A very special thank you to Mr. Painting & Decorating himself, Mike Kopach & Mike Tracey of Cloverdale Paints for helping out our trails&park! Team Mikes :D Donated & discounted paint was lovingly applied to approximately 15 picnic tables along the trail to spruce things up! How about that new colour!? You might remember that Mike headed up the Cupola/roof vent display project within Shadow Lake Park last year. If you see these businesses/people out there, let's give them a... distanced pat on the back or shout out! Also, give them a ring if you have painting requirements. Mr. Kopach can also assist with painting, plaster repair, wallpapering, faux finishing, drywall and more. Tell them you saw them posted on our Facebook Page :) Mike Kopach - Mr. Painting & Decorating - Waterford 519 443 4099 Mike Tracey - Cloverdale Paints - Simcoe 519 718 1792, 519 428 0076

We did a fun thing today, a small concrete pad constructed! Any guesses what for? If you are in the know, let's have a little game to see what answers we get from people who don't know. Solution will be posted in a week or 2 with pics. Volunteer constructors: Andy Kooistra, Mike McDonnell and yours truly (Dave).... Shout out to Norfolk County for providing some funds for the build & Brian and his team at Rona Simcoe for being so helpful and kind to us with this project. We appreciate you very much!

Seeking help or info. If anyone can assist with any facts regarding incidents caused by 3 motorcycles and 1 ATV coming South from Brant County into Norfolk. Trail, gateways and signs were damaged as reported by a good property owner and trail user last Saturday June 20. Feel free to private message us or call Norfolk OPP +1 519-426-3434 or Crimestoppers +1 800 222 8477 (TIPS). An excerpt of what was reported to OPP: "This afternoon (Saturday June 20) around 3.30pm we had ...3 dirt bikes and an ATV come tearing south down the trail. They came from the north, at least from north of Maple Grove Road in Brant County and I am not sure how far south past my Con 3 they went. When they came into Norfolk at Jenkins Road they uprooted one of your 6X6 bollards to get the ATV through, then rode around the gates over the resident's lawns at Concession 2. At my Concession 3 the ATV rode over & through the farmer's rye field and bent over one of the t-bars to keep going south."

Hi everyone, appreciate those of you in the community bringing concerns forward this past week. Coincidentally yesterday, I encountered one of our fine OPP officers in town as a "Walk Up" and struck a conversation and raised our concerns. He was very receptive to our concerns and he is also a trail user. He will be proactively setting up with his team a blitz on motorized recreational vehicles, coordinating trying to help a transient living next to the trail into social as...sistance and was in the loop with burnt out wreck found recently. There was genuine concerns for all points on his part I felt. Hoping for the best resolutions for all involved. Thanks to our OPP team!

Reminder to be careful with touching trail fixtures during COVID pandemic. If so, try not to touch anything including your face and try to wash/disinfect your hands as soon as possible and regularly.
