According to EnergyStar an EnergyStar tankless water heater saves 59 therms/year over a tank type water heater. At $1.00/therm that’s an annual savings of $59. (National average is $1.29) Also according the EnergyStar a tank type costs $865 to install while a tankless is $1470 to install. More than likely the average is closer to $1200/$3500 from my experience. If we go to the higher costs the difference is $2300. Divide that by $59 and the ROI is 39 years. ... Models with a recirc line waste more energy than units without a build it recirc line. Units without a built in recirc line waste tons and tons of water per year. Now add that because of the tiny orifices and throughways the tankless units need to be serviced annually by a professional to maintain warranty and unit operation and if maintained properly according to energystar will last on average 10-15 years. Now add that with zero maintenance according to energy star a tank type water (gas) heater will last 8-13 years. Here's a good read from Keith My Furnace Guy It's cold and I'm receiving lots of calls about people having furnace problems. The leading furnace problem is airflow and overheating furnaces.... During cold weather like this your furnace will work longer and harder. If you are using 3M filters, pleated filters or woven filters I guarantee that your furnace is operating 20 to 30% longer than it needs to and will reflect on your gas and electric bill next month. Please do yourself a favor and stop using those filters. Having to replace Motors because they're burnt out because of those filters isn't worth it especially when motors are running$475 and up. Use see-through fiberglass filters only and change monthly. These are sold in three packs for under $10 at most hardware stores. Stay warm folks and don't hesitate to call or email if you're having furnace problems. I can usually walk you through a problem for free rather than paying hundreds of dollars to have someone come out. Please share or thanks In advance for sharing. Chimney cleaning for your furnace.... THIS SHOULD BE INCLUDED...NOT EXTRA!! Environmental FEE'S....SCAM....it's a money grab for people working on commission to earn EXTRA money fraudulently. Re Useable Filters.....many many companies sell thes for over $130.00 promising No Dust, less dusting, increased performance, a cure for ____ ......they'll say anything to sell you in order to make a higher commission and profit. Deodorant/sanitizer.....this is a huge seller for companies. They make $hundreds $$ off of this scam. The amount of product used is usually less than $5.00 ....SOLD for $80.00 plus dollars. They aren't using the proper equipment or product. This service requires a thermal fogger and a product called benefect. It is 100% natural thyme oil and adheres to sheet metal.....not man made, smells fantastic and is safe. And last but not least..... door to door solicitors, telephone solicitors.....don't answer either. If you have a johnwood water tank this is how to tell the age of it it's the first four numbers of the serial #. In this photo it's 0508 it means it was made in oct of 2005, the average life span of a water tank is 12-14 years if you have a soft water unit expect to get 5-7 years
