Elon Musk thinks by 2050 we can build a self-sustainable city on Mars. While SpaceX is currently working on their multi-billion Starship rocket that is capable of transporting around 100 people to Mars, WatLock is designing and building a self-sustainable airlock for a Mars colony. Our airlock will be crucial to providing a safe entryway into any sort of Martian habitat that can sustain an atmosphere for people to breathe. WatLock is a student design team at the University o...f Waterloo tackling the many challenges of space engineering and Mars colonization. On the weekend of May 18th, 2019, various universities came together to present their airlock design at UBC’s Mars Colony Project Airlock Challenge. WatLock proudly won the best presentation award after months of hard work! Special thanks to Adam, Yifei, Johnny, Alyssa, and Logan who made sure that the presentation was flawless hours before the competition. What’s next? Building a prototype for our airlock design to compete in May 2020! https://watlock.co/

Hey guys! Are you interested in space engineering, control systems, or business development? Do you want to go to BC? Does the idea of working on large-scale engineering projects that groups like Space X and NASA are trying to solve sound cool to you? If you answered yes to any of these questions, join WatLock! WatLock is a student design team aiming to build an airlock for UBC’s 2020 Mars Colony Project Airlock Challenge. This term we’ll be building a depressurization system and hatches for the airlock, designing a user interface for astronauts to use, and building a central computer. Our application is available here and closes on Sunday, May 12th, 2019 at 11:59 pm: https://forms.gle/PaxYzXLfneowEa8Z9 If you have any questions feel free to send a message on our contact page here: https://watlock.co/pages/contact.html

Hey! We just wanted to take a moment at the start of our new semester to acknowledge our following organizations who've sponsored us for over 500$ last year! We wouldn't be able to continue to accomplish the great things we do at Watlock without them. Look forward to 2019, Watlock will be making quite the splash at the UBC Airlock Competition in May 2019!

Hi everyone, With the start of a new term, we’re happy to say that WatLock will be recruiting new members to our team. WatLock is a team of students from various programs in engineering, science, and math that all share the goal of building a fully functional and self-sustainable airlock. If you have an interest in space settlement, hardware engineering, mechanical design, finances, or maybe you just watched Star Wars and got excited, then this is the team for you! This term..., we will begin some of the work on prototyping the airlock for the build competition held at UBC. Our mechanical, electrical, and business teams will all be recruiting new members this term. Our application can be found below. We will be closing it off on Sunday, January 13th at 11:59 pm. If you have any questions feel free to message us on our facebook page or send us an email to [email protected] https://goo.gl/forms/NOIWvziM1ui9bKFC2

What better way to end the term than to celebrate with a night of bowling and pizza. We've accomplished a lot over these last few months and it's great to see how close we're getting to reaching our goals! From all of us here at WatLock, good luck on your exams and sleep well (or not, but that's up to you). Also, Adam got the quote of the night when after his strike he said, "Cali or Bust is my lifestyle".
