Saying good bye to a gentle sweet soul is always hard. Especially in Trevor's case, we have struggled for the right words to express our sorrow and capture his essence in words. Trevor left his family and fur sister Maddie last week after a long battle with age related medical issues. In his usual fashion he handled his illness with quiet dignity and grace. He was a special little guy who was such a quiet gentle and well mannered boy. Always up for attention, play and he h...andled the addition of Maddie, who was a kitten, with his usual grace and tolerance. Maddie grew up and they had a special relationship and were true siblings. Trevor we will miss you but are thankful for all the years that we had to know, care for and love you! You are an amazing soul and we wish you safe passage across the bridge. We are sorry for the void you left in your family, who are grieving your loss and miss that gentle quiet presence that spoke so loudly in your house. Send some love to Trevor's heart wrenched family and healing thoughts. See more

Happy Thursday Today's Fur KId Story comes from LIlo's mom. Lilo Molly, Koka & Todd (who we recently lost:( ) aka the mini zoo have been with WPS since the beginning of time. We loved watching their lives and Lilo grow up, we were there from the beginning of the addition of Lilo aka sunshine, love & butterfly girl! We adopted Lilo from an Eskie rescue organization in the early summer of 2013. She was born in a foster home - her mother had been the one rescued by the or...ganization. Lilo (then Robin) and her siblings had been born in February, and while we first saw her and the litter shortly after, we weren’t quite ready. Our older dog, Keltie, had just passed away in March. We still had another dog, Molly, who was already quite a handful. So we talked ourselves out of it. Over time, we kept re-visiting the rescue’s website, just to check. The litter was slowly being adopted, until in June there was just one left. And she looked oh-so-sweet. We decided to go for it. After quite an adoption process, we picked Robin up in late June, and brought her home, and started calling her Lilo. She responded to her new name and surroundings readily. She and Molly actually got along pretty well right aff the bat (unusual, because Molly is a bit anti-social). Turns out, this was all due to Lilo’s sweet and easy going disposition. She saw no need to argue with Molly, or get in her way. Lilo was, from the start, practically perfect in every way. She came to us with most of her basic training in place, and was mellow and loving. She did, however, have one significant flaw. You see, after our experiences with Molly, we learned to put EVERYTHING away, so that it couldn’t get chewed on. This left Lilo with few options except for walls, baseboards, and furniture, which she gnawed on quite happily. Luckily, with a bit more training, and some time, she has outgrown this little flaw. Our couches are finally safe. These days, Lilo is still all sunshine and happiness. She is easy going, snuggly, and LOVES everyone and everything. She’s 7 years old now, but doesn’t believe it for a minute, and acts like a happy go lucky puppy. She’s truly been the best dog we’ve ever had the privilege to live with, and remains practically perfect in every way. Just ask her.

I have really struggled with this..... Thinking if I didn't post Molly's goodbye it would not be real, but it is and as heart broken as we are it is nothing to the loss her parents feel. Molly and her fur siblings have been a big part of WPS for 7 yrs and it is so hard to imagine her not out there running around, barking, eating everything in sight and giving a multitude of kisses to those she loved. Molly said goodbye to her parents and fur sisters early on Sunday morning a...fter a really hard night. She battelled medical issues and age related problems for a few years, which she handled in typical Molly fashion, brave, bold and determined to be herself. Molly was the elder of the Snow Ball sisters and half of the Bestie Eskies, we named them this in the first year of knowing them as they were so much fun and loving. Molly had a really rough start to life and lucked out when her parents and first fur sister Keltie adopted her. It was through much patience, love and training Molly overcame a lot of her issues and started to trust again. This pretty little girl was the boss of the mini zooin her home, feline siblings Koka & Todd ( who has recently gone over the Rainbow Bridge as well) mainly kept out of her way .....except Todd when it was meal time LOL. Her fur sister Lilo came home as a 6 mos old puppy, who won over Molly and they were great friends quickly. We still remember Lilo's destructo phase and Molly would stand in front of what ever Lilo got into just to let us know it was not her :) Molly's parents were so devoted to her and gave her the best life, never giving up, whether it be behavioural, medical or any other issue that came up in Molly's life. Thank you for being the best Pet Parents who loved and brightened beautiful Molly's life. No one could have done more for her. Safe passage little one and I hope you and Keltie are not chasing Todd too much. We will miss you more than you can possibly imagine but are heartened by the knowledge you had a life well lived. This year has been brutal on Molly & Todd's parents send them a little extra love and help break some of the silence left by two missing fur kids.

Christmas when you have pets.

Waterloo Pet Services 20.06.2019

A little over two weeks until Christmas! And yet somehow, it still feels like we are stuck in March This has been an incredibly strange year, right? If the g...ift giving season has snuck up on you and you have some pet parents in your life that you want to buy for, consider purchasing from a local small business. This area has SO many amazing entrepreneurs, makers and bakers and crafters. I'm working on a more permanent 'buying guide' but for now, here are just some of the stores who would love to have your business. Some of the smaller shops can't take any more orders this year but many offer gift cards. Or buy something for yourself in the new year if you can! Please support the small businesses near you. Every single purchase makes a difference and you get quality items and service. Tip Tuesday- when you are planning a new addition to your family of the furry, scaly or feathered kind, please remember to do some pre work. Also please remember pets are NOT spur of the moment gifts for the Holidays, they are for a life time!. Please research your prospective pet and if they will fit into your lifestyle! Ask yourself: 1. What type of fur, feathered or scaled baby will work with best with my life style 2. Do I have the time to introduce a new fur into my l...ife, there will be a transition time regardless of breed, age or other pets in the house 3. Have I researched a vet that will agree with my take on care? 4. Do I know the physical, social, mental and training needs that come with my new baby and can I meet these needs? 5. If a canine kid consider a dog walker, doggy day care, boarders: & help if you have a long day at work 6. Consider enrichment; what is going to keep them occupied when you are not there See more

Thursday is Fur Kid Story Time ... Today's Story is from Leo's mom, Leo has been a WPS'r since he was 6mos old and a WPS fav since day1 :) Leo (Lucky) was born May 21st 2017. I had been searching for another golden after my 12 and a half year old Libby passed away in July 2017. My sister saw him on the facebook page of someone she used to work with. This was in October, he was 5 months old by then and the only one left from the litter. He was living in a barn/garage with h...is mother. They had called him Lucky. I was in Montreal for work on a Thursday when she sent me his pic, and she had been sending me random pics of goldens from the US, and other places in Ontario, but when I opened the text and saw his picture I burst into tears, I knew he was my dog. She set up a meeting for the Saturday so I could pick him up. They warned us he was very shy and hadn’t been around people, figured he would be stand-offish. But as soon as I bent down to pet him, he snuggled into my hip and didn’t leave my side. He was malnourished, had not been vaccinated, was wet and dirty and cold, and I couldn’t wait to get him out of there. As he ran to my caryes, he couldn’t wait to go either (and had never been in a car), I saw that he had a wonky hind end. Something was wrong with his right hip or leg. The owners played dumb. I was heart broken thinking he may need surgery or may not be ok, but he was already mine and needed me. After x-rays and tests, the vet thinks it was a birth defect, and no surgery is required. So a bit of a limp/funny walk is all we have to worry about. He had 8 weeks of antibiotics to treat a bladder infection, which meant no vaccinations, which meant no leaving the house/backyard. We had a year of stomach issues, that I am happy to say is over and he is a healthy boy. Leo is sweet, cuddly, gentle, funny, bossy, determined and smart. He loves his stuffed animals, especially the ones with squeakers! He isn’t your typical golden retriever that destroys things. I think it’s because he never had a toy until I brought him home. He loves people and dogs, but especially people. He wants (demands) to stop and see everyone on the sidewalk, or in there driveway or on their porch, he thinks everyone has come out to see (and pet) him. Long walks in the woods are his absolute favorite thing, although it typically ends with a tail full of burrs! People say you get the dog you need at the time you need it, it’s true. Leo is the perfect combination of my previous 2 goldens (Libby & Georgia). I cannot imagine life without him. How lucky we have been to have the care and support of Waterloo Pet Services. Leo loves his visits and walks with Janice, Murray and Kat! I cannot thank them enough for their time and care in helping me with my Golden Boy.

Wellness Wed - Senior Pets & Winter - I spent a long time looking for an article to post, then thought I would post from our experiences. As we all know Seniors need a little more help. Think about us getting older.... you feel the cold even more, joints and muscles hurt more and you are more sensitive to everything 1. The big thing is to keep them, active, comfortable and warm especially in the Winter 2. Raise their beds off the floor with a warming element .... blankets, ...heating pads and an orthopedic or a firm base 3. Look into joint supplements or massage. Look into doing this daily 4. Outside time should be in small and steady increments.... short walks and more of them. Coats and boots are even more important now. As their pads are thinner and they are affected by the cold more 5. Make sure where they are laying is not near doors, cold vents or any where there is a draft 6. Be in good contact with your health care professional, they can help you alert to problems and give Winter tips See more
