This year we ran our club championships throughout the summer and they cumulated this Sunday with the finals of each event! Thanks to all the players who competed throughout the tournament and congrats to those that made the final day! Especially need to congratulate Kristian Kopic on his triple crown!
Enjoy and watch for the tennis racquet!
Happy Canada Day everyone!
As per the provincial guidelines, we have been able to open our outdoor courts for singles play only. We are also offering private lessons to members only. If you'd like to play, please visit our website and click on the Join Now button for info on prices. Many thanks to all the staff and volunteers that stepped up to get the courts and club ready!
Sad news for all who love the sport but kudos to Tennis Canada for making the health of all of us the focus in these difficult times.
The Board has met to discuss the impact of COVID-19 on our members and community. After much deliberation and with an abundance of caution, we feel that it is the responsible decision to close the club. Effective end of day Saturday March 14th, 2020, Waterloo Tennis Club will be closed for all activities. The tentative reopening date is Monday April 6th, 2020 (subject to review as events unfold). Lessons that would have started the week of March 23rd will commence 2 weeks l...ater and will be the full 13 week duration. The Club will extend the memberships of current members for 1 month beyond their current expiry. We remind everyone that if you develop symptoms stay home, avoid contact with others and call the Region of Waterloo Public Health at 519-575-4400. All of the dates in this communication may be changed, as the COVID-19 situation evolves. We thank you for your understanding during this difficult situation and are wishing everyone good health. Bill Sherifali President Waterloo Tennis Club Board
Members took to the courts to compete in quick tiebreaker matches. The format meant you couldn't let down your guard even for a minute! Congrats to Alex Siuda and Hyesuk Kim for winning the "A" Singles events.
It's not easy sitting on the sidelines as your kid competes their heart out in a tennis match, but how you handle yourself as a supportive sport parent has a major effect on their performance AND emotional well-being. Learn more in our Parent Portal:
Four teams of six players competed in our Century Challenge Invitational presented by the RaeLipskie Partnership. There were two teams from the Waterloo Tennis Club, one from Royal City Tennis Club and one from Northfield Racquet Club. Each match consisted of a men's doubles, women's doubles and mixed doubles. In each partnership the ages of the two players had to be 100 or more. At the end of play, the Royal City Tennis Club had claimed the Century Cup. Everyone then enjoyed... some social time in the club lounge with "champagne", chocolates and lunch. Our thanks to club members, Dennis Huss and Ken Rae for sponsoring the tournament again this year!
Our mixed doubles club championships were held on August 14 and 15. Beautiful sunny weather on Saturday followed by a delicious dinner prepared by Andrew Gillard. Sunday started out rainy but we were able to get most of the matches done in the late afternoon and evening. The finals of the "A"'s was played on Friday afternoon.
Last weekend members took to the courts for our Doubles Club Championships. The weather had players going from the clay courts to the hard courts to get all our matches played but it didn't stop our fun! Congrats to all Filbert & Steven for winning the men's doubles and Thea & Annabelle for winning the women's doubles!
Our Interurban team competed against teams from four area clubs over the summer. We competed against Northfield in the finals and won. Congrats to the team and to captain, Pat Babcock for another great season!
