I spy Mango, Kiwi, and Clemintine . We are all loving that these entertaining chicks are in the backyard with us, and that they love to play right alongside us. The "chickies" will often join us on the deck for snack in the morning hoping for some crumbs. The children have been so keen to help me care for them, and I can really see the empathy for animal life growing in them as they interact and care for these chickens. The chickies do have a run where they can be tucked away when need be, but for the most part they free range right alongside us. It is definitely a unique part of our daycare community, but something that I think really adds to the kids experience with nature, and responsibility. We love our feathered friends

Fine motor fun with letters and numbers Manipulatives add so much to learning and help make these abstract concepts concrete in the real world.

Super simple and super fun loose parts provocation. The kids played with this in so many ways this morning: colour sorting the shapes onto the popsicle sticks, naming (and arguing about) shape names, making funny faces in the mirror (so many giggles), covering up their eyes/nose in the mirror with the shapes, drumming with the popsicle sticks on the mirror, playing doctor and discussing body parts, etc. Their creativity never ceases to amaze me. And the great thing is that every different way that they played with this little set up was 100% the "right" way because it is open ended and encourages imagination. Loose parts do not have one specific way to be played with and that is exactly what we love about them. Let kids play!!

I've been quiet on facebook but we are having such a fun summer together. I just enjoyed some holidays this past week and I am missing my little daycare family Here are some pictures of what our summer has looked like so far. Happy Childcare Provider Day of Appreciation to all of my fellow providers. We were lucky enough to have an amazing home daycare provider when our eldest was younger. She is still a close friend and such an important person in Abby's life. I am grateful everyday for the role that she played in all of our lives. I can only hope to be half of the provider that she is!
