What a wonderful surprise for the children this Christmas. You can help these ladies... Hawaiian Aviators Bring Christmas Cheer to Neighboring Islands... The Aloha Chapter 99s and the Hawaii 50 Chapter of Women in Aviation International are setting forth to bring the Christmas spirit to the neighboring islands of Hawaii and their children this December. The chapters plan to deliver gift cards to teens, and toy donations to children across the state using training flights and volunteer pilots. Our chapter mission is really best summarized by the international chapter, says Tanya Rames, vice chair of the Aloha chapter. We strive to promote the advancement of aviation through education, scholarships, and mutual support while honoring our unique history and sharing our passion for flight. Passion is the key word there. Our passion for flying makes all of this possible. In response to the pandemic, a group of ambitious women aviators sewed masks and transported them along with other essential items to the outer islands of Hawaii since March. Aviators will utilize their skills once again to move mountains and share Christmas cheer! With the help of a little over a dozen pilot volunteers and a small fleet of single engine airplanes, there is certainly enough passion to go around and make a significant impact on the homeless youth of the neighboring islands. The combined efforts of the two chapters will be focused on providing donations to 200 homeless teens on the Big Island (Project Hawaii) and a dozen children in need on Lanai (Lanai Child Welfare Services). They have set an ambitious goal to raise $4000 so each child knows they haven’t been forgotten. I never thought that my flight training would be able to bless other people, says Abigail Dang, Aloha Chapter Secretary and 18-year-old private pilot. When I wanted to become a pilot, I thought that training was just training, but the amazing thing about the Aloha Ninety-Nines and the local aviation community is that training can be a vessel for so much more. It can really branch out and bless other people. The Aloha Chapter Chair, Nobi Buntin says "It's such a phenomenal honor to receive support from not only the local community but we have received donations from the mainland, United Kingdom, Japan and China!" Nobi encourages you to learn more about the Aloha Ninety-Nines and their mission, by visiting their website at AlohaChapter99s.org and following Instagram @alohachapter99s. This past weekend, Airshow London successfully entertained thousands at Canadas first and only hugely successful drive-in airshow with all four United States A...ir Force tac demo teams, plus the Air Force Thunderbirds a first for any airshow in the world! Transport Canada (TC) recently became aware of wallet-sized Transport Canada Drone Pilot Certificate and Transport Canada Certificate of Registration cards being sold online. These cards appear to be modified versions of TCs RPAS pilot certificate and drone registration documentation use TC logo and symbols to convey authenticity. They are being sold via eBay by a seller located in the United States. TC does not accept these altered cards as valid RPAS pilot certificates... or drone registration documentation. Canadian RPAS pilots are required to have access to their Basic or Advanced Operations Certificate, either printed or electronic version, as issued by TC while operating an RPAS. Modifying documents is unauthorized and these will not be accepted under 901.57 of the Canadian Aviation Regulations, in the event a drone pilot is stopped and asked for their RPAS pilot certificate or drone registration information. Failure to properly comply with CAR 901.57 could result in a fine of up to $1,000 for an individual or up to $5,000 for a corporation. Drone safety is everyones responsibility. Always keep informed and be safe! https://lois-laws.justice.gc.ca//regulations/SOR-96-433/Fu #RPAS #UAV #drone

(DND Archives Photo PL130186) Flying Officer Marian Neilly, an RCAF para rescue nursing sister shown here in May 1955 at RCAF Station Trenton, Ontario. She was... a parabelle, a term coined for para-rescue nurses from the 1950s in the Canadian Forces. She took part in operations in what would later become modern day search and rescue (SAR) in Canada. She participated in Operation Pike's Peak at Lowry Airforce Base, Denver Colorado, on 24 March 1955. The Joint USAF/RCAF exercise aided the two services rescue units in adopting a system whereby both can participate in rescue missions in either country. The para-rescue course offered in the 1950s was attended by nurses and doctors, who at the time were the only medical personnel to jump out of airplanes on rescue missions and they did so on a voluntary basis. The course was the foundation of, and at that time the only equivalent to, todays vigorous and demanding SAR technician training course. Nursing Officers continue to serve in the present day Canadian Armed Forces Medical Service, many having deployed on tours of duty overseas in the Gulf War, Bosnia-Herzegovina, Rwanda, Somalia and Afghanistan.
