Are word banks more associated with whole reading vs. the science of reading? If you know how to decode, do you need a word bank? Things I ponder....

Our words, our trust and our sense of belonging can have positive and negative learning outcomes. Educators need to build on each of these components to ensure that the child is heard, felt heard and feels needed. I still believe this to be true. I think that in including the UDL we need to make sure that the strugglers don’t feel like they are left out of the class or made to feel different. While I believe that different is good, the tone we set towards different, ...is the balance scale of the confidence of the learner. If we embrace different, then confidence can soar. If we do not embrace different, all learners pick up on that and bullying and low self-esteem can occur. I will continue to fight for those with a weaker voice always. They are my passion. They give and need more in to do everyday tasks. We need to help them succeed without spoon-feeding information. The moment that they develop their voice, I get to fade away. I love and live for those moments. My success with inclusion was teaching a child that "different" is an amazing tool to have in their toolkit for success. It means that you think differently than everyone else and can achieve all you desire as your thinking is not limited to one mindset. You take the path less travelled. I did not realize the impact I had on that education until later in life, when the mom randomly called and said Jenny thank you for saving my child. You treated *** as special, not different. <3
